Serampore is a pre-colonial city on the west bank of the Hooghly River. It was part of Danish India under the name Frederiknagore from 1755 to 1845. In Bengal first and India's second mills, Asia's first university and the secound College of India (Serampore College), India's first library,Even India's first paper mill in this city was founded by Serampore missionary in the year of 1818. Rathayatra of Mahesh (since 1396 AD) is the India's second oldest Rath Yatra.
My house is situated at the heart of the city Serampore. Only 1.3 Km away from Serampore Rail Station, and just 200m away from Grand Trunk Road, more over you can reach the Ganges by 5 minutes walk, as it is just 800m away. Also you can visit Barrackpore, by taking a ferry at Ganges, the oldest Cantonment of Asia. Private ferry services are also available at the ganges ferry services. You can visit here at any time, and who ever you are(frankly speaking) you are warmly welcomed.You can have lunch/dinner at home made with my mom's finest hands.
You can hang out at the river side roads, so many restaurants and cafeterias are also there. You can do shopping also. There is a large number of apparel printing cottages around my house, you can learn the process of Printing of Silk Sarees, even buy them at cheap rates. This is currently the most advanced an important industrial city in Hooghly district. So many jute mills, paper mills, thread mill, cotton mills are in this city. There is a silk hub also at Mahesh & Tarapukur.
