“Richmond’s grandest film theater has resisted alteration. It has adapted to changing practices in the film industry for 85 years without losing its focus on film, popular entertainment, and architectural and musical spectacle. The theater, altered only as needed to meet the demands of technology, has been maintained in near original condition throughout that time, in spite of the many changes that have been seen in the film distribution business. It is individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The theater, named after Richmond’s founder, William Byrd II, is one of the nation’s most significant surviving movie palaces.”

“Once upon a mid-night dreary ... Before you go, pick up a copy of Silverman's biography of Edgar Allan Poe ( or read the first few pages of the beside copy in our studio). You won't put it down and you won't miss the Poe Museum. In fair weather, don't miss the Poe Museum's weekly ":Unhappy Hour" on Thursdays for drinks in their ancient, eerily enchanting boxwood courtyard. The Poe museum collection is housed in the oldest residential property in Richmond, a charm of great gray stones, mortar, and slate. ”

“Hollywood Cemetery, perched above the James River, is a beautiful sacred site. Going for a stroll is a peaceful and refreshing experience and visiting President's Circle, where Presidents James Monroe and John Tyler are buried, is a worthy experience. ”

“Absolutely delicious pastries and bread. I love the dark rye bread (you can ask for just half a loaf). You can’t go wrong with any of the pastries. The coffee is great too.”

“The original location of this Richmond favorite is located in a repurposed gas station, across the street from a few cute clothing and vintage shops. Great coffee and a diverse menu of sandwiches. Definitely a hipster magnet and quite a scene--good people watching and lots of outdoor seating. For quieter workspace (but no menu), check out the Summit Street location in Scott's Addition; the Morris Street location near VCU has more indoor seating and a full menu.”
