“Felbrigg Hall is one of the region’s most elegant and ornate buildings, offering up medieval stained glass windows, opulent Italianate décors, a sumptuous Gothic library with over 5,000 books, intricate 17th-century plaster work, and much, much more. Felbrigg’s Walled Garden is home to intoxicating colourful herb beds that give off wonderfully intoxicating aromas as you walk the picturesque, hedge-bordered paths. Alternatively, why not pay a visit to the cool shade of the Orangery or gaze at the unusual, exotic plants that grow in the grounds? Entering the rest of the hall’s 520 acre estate, visitors can walk beside the ancient beeches and oaks of the Great Wood (a designated Site of Scientific Interest), uncover the folly ruins of the Ice House, or lounge by the tranquil waters of Felbrigg Lake. Felbrigg’s tea room has an excellent reputation for homemade soup and scones, so a pit stop here to refuel is highly recommended! Top tip: Don’t miss the chance to visit the dovecote in the Walled Garden. Built in the late 18th century, it is one of the UK’s very best surviving examples of a large-scale dovecote, with holes for nearly 1000 birds to nest in. The structure was restored in the early 20th century and is still home to eye-catching doves today.”

It is a showcase of the work of architects James Gibbs and Colen Campbell complemented by the richly ornamented interiors of William Kent and furnished to reflect Walpole's growing wealth and power. The Hall is currently the home of the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, Walpole's descendent, and his family. Situated in traditional parkland, Houghton is home to a spectacular herd of white fallow and other exotic deer. Displayed in the grounds is an impressive collection of contemporary sculptures by world-renowned artists including works by James Turrell, Richard Long, Stephen Cox, Anya Gallaccio, Stephen Cox, Jeppe Hein, Rachel Whiteread, Phillip King and Henry Moore. “A short 15 minute drive away from Holt you will find the incredible, natural, and very beautiful, Blakeney Point. Created by longshore drift across the River Glaven , Blakeney point is a 4-mile spit of flint-derived shingle and sand dunes. Blakeney is perhaps most famous as a viewing place to see the seals, regular boat tours are available and leave from Morston Quay daily. ”

“Cookies is a little cafe and fish shop on the coast road in Salthouse. It's a bit of a local secret. I always make a beeline for it whenever I'm up in Norfolk. It has amazing seafood platters. There is space to sit outside in the summer and a little cafe for inclement weather. They don't have a license but are happy for you to bring a bottle of something chilled. Warning - it's very little and local so they may not have crab or lobster if the weather is too rough for the boats to go out, and they may close if they have nothing to sell - especially on Mondays. But if you're in luck, you're in for a treat!”
