Windmill
“ Wimbledon Windmill is a hollow post mill, the rarest type in England. Built in 1817, it only operated until 1864, after which it turned into residential property. Today the windmill has been converted into a museum, where you can learn about all the different types of mills, their functions, and the labourers who worked in them. The museum displays tools, models, and lets you have a good at grind your own flour. ”

“Shoppers look no further: Seven Dials offers anything from incredible Delicatessen to high fashion boutiques. Whilst not strictly low-budget; there are some great cheap clothing stores such as ROKIT; a hipster, vintage store.”

“Dean's Yard is built on the site of The Elms and the former monastery farmyard. Since the 18th century there have been three rows of trees and a central green here, but the high railings surrounding it were removed in 1967. The yard now features a number of large trees, including London planes, a red horse chestnut, a tulip tree, maple and sycamore. Smaller trees include silver birches and a medlar. The surrounding buildings are in an attractive ‘collegiate' style. The site is used by Westminster School as an occasional football pitch.”

“Lovely brick-cobbled streets and converted warehouses, it surprises me how few tourists go to this Thames-side area. A great 30-minute walk along the Thames down to Canary Wharf.”

“Towering over Golborne Road, the famous Trellick Tower has become a much talked about landmark, loved and loathed in equal measure but protected from any wrecking ball by its Grade II status. A prime example of the brutalist architecture favoured in the sixties, Trellick Tower has experienced all the social problems that have come to be associated with high rise concrete blocks. But despite all that it still stands tall today. The design is down to Erno Goldfinger - if he sounds like some villain out of a Bond movie, that's because he is; author Ian Flemming named one of his characters after the architect. Not suprisingly, Goldfinger was none too happy. Regardless of what Flemming thought of”

“This beautiful Georgian building was the London home of the first Duke of Wellington and has changed very little since his great victory at Waterloo in 1815. Revel in one of the finest art collections in London, with paintings by Velazquez and Rubens, as well as a wonderful collection of silver and porcelain.”

“Severndroog Castle on Shooters Hill is gothic style, brick-built tower. Having undergone a massive restoration project, the castle has been open to the public since 2014 and the rooms once again have beautiful ornate ceilings and chandeliers. The ground floor is now a cafe open from breakfast and brunch, to lunch and tea. It’s a great stop after some exploring.”
