“Definitely need to go here early by 9am to get a decent place to park and place on the sand. Very popular beach with younger crowd. White sand and great waves to body surf on. ”

“Manini’owali Beach is a secluded and small white sand beach at Kua Bay, just north of Kona. The water in the bay is crystal clear and the beach is more difficult to reach than other nearby white sand beaches. This makes Kua Bay a strong competitor for the title of “best white sand beach” on the Big Island!”

“If some freak climatic event ever brought winter hibernation to the Big Island, you could survive the lean season by storing the calories away after a single plate lunch at this institution. The food here – short ribs, garlic fried chicken, loco moco etc – is both delicious and served in simply awe-inspiring portions.”

“You can drive or walk in, but I recommend once you reach park, walk North along the coast until you get to what locals call Makalawena. You'll know you're there once you hit a very long stretch of White sand and Crystal Blue water. You will come across a couple of beaches that fit this description, but unless you're walking for about 20 minutes minimum, they are not It! Makalawena is a beauty of 2 worlds....White sand with Blue Water and if you continue on, it'll turn into a rocky landscape with brackish water ponds. There is an entrance directly into Makalawena, but the road is treacherous and a 4 wheel drive vehicle is needed!”

“Sea turtle sea turtles, I’ve seen the most sea turtles at this beach! It’s 4 miles south to Kona airport. Do not go to the park entrance, instead, drive to the Marina and park at the north end then walk half mile through the gates towards north until you see a refugee hut on the white sand. There are often many turtles in the shallow water”

“Follow the serpentine road through the historic coffee town of Holualoa, perched on the slopes of Hualalai Volcano, to find this cheerful green landmark clock building and the 30-acre gourmet farm it announces. The owners started with a few acres and have been steadily expanding both the coffee orchard and their collection of loveable dogs. The award-winning Hula Daddy Kona Coffee farm processes and roasts only its own beans. Out of 62 entries, it won the coveted Kona Coffee Cupping Competition in the Classic Division for single estate farms in 2016. Warm up with a sample cup as you view the cascade of green coffee fields, then learn about the steps from farm to roasting on a free tour of the orchard and the roasting room”

“With a rocky bottom, and strong shore break, the swimming at Kohanaiki Beach Park is just okay. However, this great stretch of beach is a renowned location for surfing, barbecues, gatherings, and watching the sunset. It’s no surprise the area is so popular with both locals and visitors. Camping is allowed here, but requires a permit to stay overnight, you can get the permit online and pick it up at the guard shack. They lock the gates at night so if you’re camping, come prepared.”
