“15 minutes up the road is The DuPont State Forest. The Park is known for several spectacular waterfalls, as well as miles of biking, hiking, and horseback trails. Several of our cover photos are from there and it is a magnificent place. It might be somewhat familiar to you if you have ever seen the movie “The Hunger Games” and “The Last of the Mohicans.” I think there are tours if you’re interested. The hiking to the waterfalls is more of a long walk. There are no food vendors nearby.”

“Grab a bike (or rent from Reedy River Bike Rentals), and bike from downtown Greenville to Travelers Rest in under an hour. We like to stop for smoothies or lunch off the trail in Travelers Rest and then head back to Greenville.”

Zoo
“All kids love the Zoo, right? Greenville’s should be no exception. It is a smaller Zoo surrounded by the giant Cleveland Park and a huge playground. A great outing for kids and super close to Sidewall Pizza, which wouldn’t make a bad lunch :).”

“A local staple and all-around cool place! Right on the Swamp Rabbit Trail is a grocery and cafe with a vision. The Grocery only sells the highest quality locally sourced foods and is full of delicious tasting local meat and produce. The farm-to-table cafe has delicious sandwiches, coffees, and pastries. Our personal favorites are the Carrot Cake donut and the Oat berry Shortbread, as well as their “daily bread,” called Stecca. On weekend evenings, they open up Swamp Rabbit Pizza, serving up absolutely delicious slices on homemade dough topped with seasonal local produce and local meat. You really can’t go wrong at this great little cafe! ”

“Voted “Best of the Upstate” for a Coffeehouse, Coffee Underground is literally underground. You take the stairs at the corner of Coffee St and Main St down to this cozy and spacious coffee house. They have excellent lattes and cappuccinos, and individual French Presses you can use to sample coffee flavors from around the world. Couple this with their delicious sandwiches and exquisite desserts and cheesecakes and you’ve got a great atmosphere for a conversation, writing inspiration, and more. Occasionally they also have live comedy and other special events. Definitely worth a visit.”

“Tandem is a jewel of a place located right in downtown T.R. They have truly perfected their crepes and serve lattes that are to die for. Their menu varies by season, but we truly haven’t had anything we didn’t like! My personal favorites are anything with goat cheese, the Lumberjack, and the simple but delicious Lemon Sugar crepe. Their menu is divided into sweet and savory, and they also have a great selection of teas. Their Jasmine tea is served in a glass pot and smells divine. Finally, they have waffles and even homemade sodas. All of this is in an absolutely gorgeous modern environment. After your meal, take a walk on the Swamp Rabbit trail and enjoy the beauty of the day, you’ll be glad you made a side stop in Traveler’s Rest.”

“Water dogs will fancy a swim in (or walk around) one of the four lakes and ponds at Paris Mountain State Park, seven miles north of downtown Greenville. For four-legged land lovers, 15 miles of hiking trails thread the woodlands.”
