A spacious, self contained, well equipped, comfortable annexe in a beautiful location near the sea. Your own large garden with great views and firepit/BBQ. Parking. Wonderful walks from the door with spectacular views, good local farm shop and easy access to great beaches and the towns of Lyme Regis, Bridport and Charmouth. It adjoins our home, and shares our drive, but provides total privacy, with self check in and self check out possible.
The Old Studio is a larger than average annexe in the beautiful Marshwood Vale, and a comfortable get away whatever the weather. We are very sorry to say that due to the coronavirus situation we are not taking bookings for April and May, and will update this listing if we need to extend that period. We would be delighted to receive bookings for later in the year and can reassure you that if these subsequently have to be cancelled you will get a full refund.
The Old Studio is in the heart of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the Jurassic Coast, and just a couple of miles from Golden Cap. It is ideal for 2 adults, and can accommodate 3 as a 3rd person can sleep on the single sofa bed in the kitchen diner. Please note there is an additional charge for a 3rd guest .
The kitchen diner (4.4mx3.3m) is well equipped and has a full size dishwasher, double oven with ceramic hob, microwave, fridge freezer, bluetooth DAB radio, dining table and chairs and love seat which converts to the single sofa bed.
The bed sitting room (5.4mx3.6m) is accessed via the kitchen diner, and has a king size bed, dressing table, wardrobe, 3 seater sofa, Freeview enabled TV with HDMI cable so you can connect to a laptop, DVD/CD player, books, DVDs and games.
The shower room (accessed via the bed sitting room) has toilet, shower, wash basin, heated towel rail and airing cupboard - where an indoor drying rack, iron and ironing board are stored.
Superfast broadband is available over our wifi.
There is a seating area just outside the front door which catches the afternoon sun . In addition there is a large dedicated guest garden area which is a great spot for your morning coffee or to sit around the log fire in the firepit in the evening. This is a short walk from the annexe, along a grassy path with steps and slopes. It is surrounded by mature trees and hedges, and offers fabulous views. The guest garden area is large enough for a child to let off steam, and is equipped with a table, chairs , bench and firepit with BBQ grill.
Our house is tucked away at the end of a secluded lane, in an acre of garden, nestled into the side of the National Trust's Hardown Hill with its panoramic views over West Dorset. The Old Studio offers a real sense of retreat from the world. We have amazing dark skies, and stargazing is a real treat on a clear night. We hear no traffic noise at all, and often the only sound you will hear at night is owls, and on waking is bird song - yet we are less than 10 minutes from the coast. There are great walks with spectacular views straight from the front door, but we are very close to Bridport, Charmouth and Lyme Regis. These foodie seaside towns , as well as having great beaches, offer a vibrant mix of markets, cafes, restaurants, galleries, museums and independent shops which are open all year round.
The space is not suitable for toddlers, and we have not provided any baby or safety equipment. However if you want to bring an infant who is not yet crawling, you are welcome to do so, and there is plenty of space to put up a travel cot. The sofa bed in the kitchen diner is also suitable for an older child, and has a mattress much the same size as a single airbed.
We provide milk, tea, coffee, eggs, butter, homemade bread and jam and kitchen basics including olive oil, sugar, salt and pepper, so that you can make a simple supper or breakfast on arrival. Fresh vegetables from our kitchen garden may also be available in season. An initial supply of kindling, logs and firelighters are supplied for the firepit.
All the paintings on the walls of the annexe are by Eddie, and are available to purchase at a discount price to our guests. Full details are in the printed manual in the accommodation.
Guests should note that there is a single step to access the front door, and there are two steps between each room. The annexe is connected to the main house by a locked door in the kitchen diner.
As well as the indoor airing cupboard and drying rack, there are outdoor drying facilities (in the garden and under cover) for wetsuits etc. There is undercover storage for bikes, kayaks, surf boards etc if you are bringing those . Please bring your own beach towels.
Access to the property is down an unmade lane, which may be tricky if you have a very low slung sports car, but which we manage without any problem at all in our basic mini. There is space for one guest car to park adjacent to the annexe. Your key will be in a key safe, and we will give full directions and access details once your booking is confirmed.
We are a couple of miles inland from the National Trust Golden Cap Estate on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, and there are several beaches, and many miles of the South West Coast Path, all within very easy reach. Our favourite beaches are Seatown with its beachside gastro pub, The Anchor, the unspoilt Eype and Charmouth with its fossils and Heritage Centre. There are numerous great walks that you can do from The Old Studio without needing to use the car, and within minutes you can be enjoying spectacular views of the Marshwood Vale, Lyme Bay and Golden Cap. The vibrant, creative market town of Bridport with its host of independent shops, arts venues , eateries and events is less than 4 miles to the East. Charmouth, with its sandy beaches and fossil hunting haunts is 3 miles to the west and Lyme Regis, with its famous cobb, dinosaur museum, restaurants and winding lanes is just west of there.
Ryall is a hamlet, and sits between the villages of Whitchurch Canonicorum and Morcombelake. Morcombelake is a mile away, and has the wonderful Felicity's Farm Shop where you can get everything you need for a short stay. It also has Annie's Tea Room and the Old Moore's Biscuit Factory which has a fully stocked deli, and bakes the most delicious pastries and bread several days a week. The Five Bells pub in Whitchurch Canonicorum is half a mile away, and serves locally brewed Palmers beer and traditional pub grub.
