Enjoy New York style living in this stunning 140sqm City Center apartment in a converted bank HQ building.

Located in of one of Joburg's oldest buildings, with a free underground parking space, lightning fast internet and close to Maboneng, Braamfontein, Newtown and 1Fox street, this apartment is perfect for families, groups of friends and business groups to access the coolest parts of urban Johannesburg.

It was also the subject of a Sunday Times home design feature.


This is one of 4 apartments that I make available, in the same building, 3 of which are penthouses. Each has its own character and is a reflection of the different architects/designers that renovated them.

My aim is to help you ‘cultivate an experience’ of Joburg by connecting you with some of the right drivers, tour guides, restaurants, experiences etc. to support your planning and make the most of your time in town, with my apartment as your home base.

Unlike many other lofts, all 3 bedrooms in this apartment have doors so privacy can be maintained.

Centrally located, this 140sqm (1,300sqft) apartment is less than 10 minutes walk to the closest Citysightseeing open-top hop-on-hop-off tour bus stop, about 25 minutes Uber ride from Johannesburg airport and 10 minutes away from the Gautrain station, giving direct access to Rosebank, Sandton, Pretoria and the airport.

It is also less than 10min Uber ride to Maboneng, Braamfontein, Joziburg lane and 1Fox street, making it perfectly located to experience the city's urban revival and access the coolest parts of Jo'burg, whilst not having to put up with the noise that goes with actually staying in these areas.

Reclaimed bank doors open into a lobby that leads to one of the guest bedrooms plus guest bathroom, on one side and through to the rest of the apartment, on the other.

I designed the layout to remind me of my time living in an open planned apartment.
The Master bedroom has a 'removable wall' that allows it to open up onto the living space, creating the feel of a large studio/warehouse apartment.

The main guest bedroom is at opposite the end of the apartment, further enhancing the privacy when there are multiple people staying. The study has been converted into a third bedroom.

All of the windows overlooking the main street have two sets of glazing (which is unusual in South Africa), so the street noise is drastically reduced.

My favourite part of the apartment (aside from the lighting in the bedroom) is the balcony that overlooks the internal atrium of the building. As it is north facing, this provides a really bright outdoor space, but is shielded from the noise of the city center.

For security, I will replace the front door lock if any keys are not returned. Guests will be charged R750 to cover the cost.

Free Wifi available is up to 500MB per day. Usage beyond that may require a top up on the system, at a cost of R100/GB.

If you need an power adaptor, please ask Dylne to lend you one. You'll need to return it with the keys. Replacement of any that are not returned will cost R150.

Great place surrounded by public stores, restaurants, and lounges that have live music at night. Dylene was a good host as well. Driver was available for tours throughout the city.

What a lovely place to stay!! One of the best places I've stayed in Johannesburg. Ade and Dylan are absolutely wonderful hosts.

Ade's place is in a fantastic central location to explore Johannesburg. He was a very good communicator prior to and during our stay, making us feel incredibly comfortable. His many recommendations were very welcome to visitors in a new city. His assistant, Dylne, was also fantastic--very timely, attentive, and incredibly friendly. I would definitely stay in his apartment again, highly recommend it.

Great apartment!! We were a bit worried when we first got to the location as it was late on Saturday night and the streets leading up to the apartment weren't very clean and had a lot of trash but once we got in, we got a bit relaxed. Amazing furniture and very modern fittings. Next day Sunday, the CBD was very secluded and we weren't sure if it was okay to walk around so we just stuck to our plans of doing Soweto tour and bungee jumping at Orlando Towers. With true CBD fashion, Monday morning was bustling with activity and we were actually glad we were in the heart of Johannesburg to experience the sights and sounds of a city that is slowly trying to claim it's name as the "place to be" for tourists and residents alike. Dylne the caretaker was very helpful with even the smallest of requests and accommodated us as his own guests. We look forward to other apartments Ade may take up as his next renovation projects. I'm sure they will be spectacular! I would recommend Ade's apartments if you are open minded about experiencing Johannesburg in it's true form and not cushioned away in the manicured lawns and curated experiences of the Joburg suburbs. Get to see beautiful old building architecture mimicking big cities all over the world like New York & London and imagine the future of Johannesburg beyond Sandton.....

Ade's place was very nice and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and how cool the place was. Dylne was also very helpful with check-in and helping with advice once we arrived. Ade was a pleasure to work with.

If you're looking for a true experience of Johannesburg; stay at Ade's. His home is located in the business district area so it's booming during the week day but quiet at night for some good rest. It's also 10-15 minutes from any of the major places you may want to hit (Neighbourgoods Market in Maboneng was less than a 10 minute drive). In addition to having a very nice home, Ade made sure we were comfortable. He answered all my questions about South Africa leading up to the trip and took the time to make suggestions of places to eat and visit in addition to what I had already planned. His home was what we expected and even though he wasn't around, he checked in frequently with myself and the building manager Dylne to make sure we were well settled and had everything we needed. Ade also hooked us up with Jacob of Chauffeur Joburg Pty Ltd. Jacob picked us up from the airport and we hit the ground running. It was truly an experience to remember. I don't think our Johannesburg experience would have been anything close to this if we stayed elsewhere. Thanks to Ade, Dylne and Jacob for making Johannesburg a place to remember.

Hi, I'm Ade. Originally from the UK, I moved to South Africa in 2005 and fell in love with the place!

I've renovated a couple of spaces, in old buildings, since I arrived. I've had such a positive response from guests that have stayed in these spaces, that I'm in the midst of renovating 3 more spaces and will make them available via Airbnb.

So Airbnb asked me to list 5 things I like. Well, in no particular order...

Building and home renovation. I'm about to start my third renovation in Johannesburg city centre. Have loved creating unique spaces and learning from each project. The fact that these types of building's would be out of my reach, in any major city in Europe or America, makes it that bit more enjoyable.

Music. I have a real passion for music. More playing than making, though I am in the process of learning to play the piano, and was a fairly reasonable DJ in my younger days (does that count as making?). I'm slowly building up my Sonos system (Lego for adults), which is great for filling your home with sounds controlled from the iPad!

Football. Tottenham Hotspurs (Spurs). Yes there are one or two fans outside of Tottenham
