Deliciously cozy, yet spacious artist's bungalow just minutes from downtown Austin. 3 bedrooms ( the master bedroom has just been remodeled..see pix) and lots of common space including open, well-equipped kitchen ..a vine covered brick patio in the front for enjoying the beautiful Austin outdoors...a brand spankin' new screened in patio in the back for lounging mosquito-free! AND, there's a 4 person hot tub surrounded by bamboo, banana, and fig trees! Shangri-la!
My home is kind of like a sweet gypsy cave. It is lush and and comfy, and keeps cool in the heat of the summer. I moved here from Seattle and needed a way to escape the big hot Texas sun, and created a little hide-away of warm embracing colors and cozy sofas to curl up on (one is so big and comfy, it can pass for a bed if need be...this would be where person#9 could sleep quite comfortably ). My house is on a quiet street with great neighbors, in hip East Austin. I am about 1/2 mile from I-35, and you can be downtown (driving) in 6 minutes, and it is also a breeze of a bike ride as well. And it is about a $9-11 Lyft/Uber/Cab ride to the middle of downtown Austin action. And city buses frequent the bus stop which is a block from my door. We have an awesome neighborhood cafe a couple of blocks walk from the house with a big courtyard and tasty food.... Manor Rd, right down the street, is bustling with bars and restaurants and tons of activity throughout SXSW, ACL,and F-1! Good times in our 'hood!
I also have a lovely vine covered brick patio that is the perfect spot for sipping margaritas in the evenings before heading back out on the town! Kitchen amenities are aplenty...everything you could want, from a Vitamix to wafflemaker, etc. ( However, I am kinda old-fashioned in that I have no microwave...just can't nuke my food...sorry. ) There is only 1 bathroom, but it has a nice big tub and plenty of hot water ( I have a tankless/on-demand water heater, so you will never run out!), and tons of pressure in the shower...I'm a stickler for a pounding shower! And finally, there are 2 real beds...1 is a Queen and 1 is a King, and then I have 2 queen size super firm and lovely air mattresses....1 in the 3rd bedroom, and an extra one that can be placed in the master bedroom if need be ( the master is huge ). If you have a 9th person, as I've mentioned before, they can comfortably stretch out on my gigantic $7000 (URL HIDDEN) is quite luxurious ( I didn't pay full price for it by the way, i'm an artist after-all...but it is a fancy one! And big enough for a 6' person to sleep on happily! ) And finally if you have a 10th person, they can sleep on the other living room sofa, that is not quite as big.
I am a traveling artist/bookbinder and am gone a lot! Being gone most of the Spring and a lot in the Summer has made me really want to be alone when I AM in Austin...but I see no reason why other folks can't enjoy my little palace while I'm away. I have lived in Austin for 17 years and know it well, so I can give you lots of tips to get you around the hippest areas, and avoid the tourist traps! (Or vice-versa! )
I am a big believer in integrity, and will do everything I can to make your stay fantastic! Sooo.... check it out...and hope to host you soon!
I will most likely be out of town when you stay at my place, but I am only a phone call or text away. I also have great neighbors that can help you out in a bind!
No pets..especially cats ( I am super allergic!!) No smoking inside house...There is a lovely patio where that is fine. No wild parties/major noise past 11 week-nights....Weekends are more (URL HIDDEN) neighbors are cool within reason. I have a full bar, and don't want to lock it all up... so feel free to drink what you will, but please leave me a bottle if you empty one, or leave me $ to replace for the next folks. The Golden Rule is all I really expect from folks!
Hey y'all, I'm a girl named Mychal ( pronounced like "Michael") and I'm a bookbinder in Austin, Texas you can check out my website at iona handcrafted ( they won't let me actually put the web address here for some reason ? )....i love to salsa dance and roller skate ( quads, not blades ) and have adventures of all sorts! I travel for work a lot doing juried fine art shows around the US, and hate the hotel thing....i always wanna be a local! I typically travel alone so i can be flexible and spontaneous, and because i find that i meet more people when i am sola! In the last 7 years, since i've fallen in love with latin music, i have mostly been traveling to Spanish speaking countries. I usually take the early part of each year off to travel and study and/or practice my Spanish, which is still a struggle for me. I have loved all of the homes I have stayed in over the last couple of years through Airbnb and have tried to incorporate the things I have learned from all of my fabulous hosts about how to do it right ( oh, and a few things NOT to do, of course! ) And so the adventure continues!
