Experience the everyday life of a Thai rice farmer from a hut set in a beautiful tropical sugar cane field in Northern Thailand. A family of Thai rice farmers will be your hosts and you'll be able to join them in many activities typical for rice farmers.
Set in the midst of sugar canes and large leafed banana plants, the space you experience depends on the season. Before the harvest in December your hut can be surrounded by dense sugar cane that can grow up to 7ft tall. And from September to November you may encounter tropical rainstorms that give you the feeling of being in a bit of a jungle. But whatever time of year you choose to come, your stay will be unforgettable.
Your Thai host family will be cooking meals with you and inviting you to join them toiling in the open fields, buying groceries at the local fresh food and vegetables markets, catching fish with your bare hands in nearby lakes and ponds or grilling meals over an open fire and more.
Participating in all of these activities is entirely optional. You can also just relax in the privacy of your hut and let a gentle breeze carry your thoughts away and venture out on your own to explore the surrounding terrain.
Sleeping on a mat in a tropical hut out in the open promises to be an unmatched experience for all your senses while immersing you in an exceptional and fascinating reality.
All meals are eaten together sitting on simple mats while you discover some amazing flavours of tasty local dishes that you helped cook. Freshly prepared papaya salad, salty grilled fish, mango slices, tom yum soup and dragon fruit to name just a few. And you'll be rolling balls of sticky rice in your palms and dipping them in delicious sauces like a local in no time.
Despite the language barrier you'll get acquainted with many of the local customs. You'll be intrigued by the contrast of peaceful rice fields with the Thais' love of Mor Lam music. And when you leave you may even come to appreciate some of the conveniences of modern Western society (we don't have flush toilets, for example).
We recommend that you book at least 10 nights or longer to make the most of your stay.
All meals, snacks and soft drinks are included as well as 2000 Baht in spending money.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU'LL BE SLEEPING ON A MAT ON THE FLOOR OF THE HUT AND NOT AN AIRBED. (AIRBNB DOES NOT HAVE "0" BEDS AND "FLOOR" AS BED TYPE OPTIONS.)
