The Black Kiwi is nestled above the historic Lyttelton Port and township, only a 20 minute drive from Christchurch.
Enjoy expansive harbour views from your private balcony and rooms within. The Black Kiwi decor is quirky chic. Stunning Port Hills walks await at your doorstep.
My place will suit couples, solo adventurers, business travellers and small families.
Suitable for up to 4 guests.
When booking for four, two will share the Balinese double bed in the large bedroom. The other two guests can opt for a king single and single bed combination, or a California king bed.
The large bedroom with bay window and balcony facing the harbour doubles as a lounge and casual dining area. The partially covered courtyard at the Black Kiwi's entry is equipped with a large BBQ and table.
The driveway access is steep, but short. Driving in and out of the parking area may seem tricky initially. While the driveway is shared, the roomy parking area is dedicated to the Black Kiwi. If preferred, there is usually street parking available as well.
The jets of the spa are not currently working but the tub can still be used as a large bath. (Will upgrade in near future.) Best to consider hot water usage. While the cylinder is large, filling the spa and running long high pressure massage showers in the same time frame will likely deplete it.
Home furnishings lovingly collected over the years will appreciate your respectful enjoyment.
Many thanks for tidying up at the end of your stay, leaving the Black Kiwi as you found her.
New Zealand is my adopted homeland. On first glimpse of the wee port town over 20 years ago, Lyttelton captured my soul. Wonderful to be able to provide a unique NZ experience, tinged with elsewhere, for all sorts of travelers. Hearing my guests' stories from far and near is a huge plus.
My professional career as a museum collections conservator has dovetailed beautifully with my own enthusiasm for travel. Exploring the birthplaces of all those museum treasures I've encountered continues to expand my horizons immeasurably.
