OLD Port of Spain home. Room with double bed and en suite bathroom. The bed has a mosquito net. Use of garden, verandah, sitting room kitchen. Free Wi Fi. Convenient for city and Carnival. No air conditioner. Electric fans provided throughout. Close to dining, nightlife, and public transport. Suitable for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. There are no scenic views. Check in times are flexible to accommodate your flight arrival as long as you tell me your flight number :)
As of 14th January 2016 the nearby power station has been decommissioned. Yippee!
However, there has been no information as to when demolition of the plant will take place or what will be built on the site. This is prime land so something will be built. It is only fair that you know that if you book with me, it is possible that your stay may coincide with demolition or construction over the road. Ho hum…. This is Trinidad!
I love my country but we are a mess! There is always something being pulled down or put up somewhere around the city!
My way of dealing with it is to go bird watching for the day or go and lay on the beach for the day if I’m not working.
So read on to find out about “Warm & Sunny in Port of Spain :)
This is a large bedroom in an old house with wooden floors throughout most of the house and large airy rooms. If you are coming to Trinidad for work we are ideally located within walking distance for access to meetings in the city centre, Hyatt, Radisson or the government Parliament and offices on the waterfront. If you are coming for a holiday this is a small country so no where is far but the traffic can be horrendous!
This location is about convenience not beauty.
Port of Spain is on the sea, so looking at a map, visitors might expect a more scenic location. However Port of Spain has no beaches and is very much a modern high rise city. The view from my home is the neighbours and the power station. There are no scenic views. To get scenic views within the city you have to stay in the Hyatt, Radisson etc. As a location it is perfect for moving around the city without having to resort to taxis. I am sorry that I can not provide beautiful views :(
I also have other rooms available which are not always listed on Airbnb so if your group is larger than two people please ask. I may be able to accommodate you :)
Access to small garden, front verandah, sitting room, kitchen with use of fridge and microwave and washing machine.
I am a Certified Tour Guide specialising in Birding, Kayaking, Camping, Historical & General Sightseeing Tours. I charge US$15 per hour except for day trips to Maracas Beach for which I charge US$50 even if you want to stay for ten hours :) The cost of kayaking or camping trips are variable depending on where we go. Kayaking starts at US$70 per person and camping trips start at US$300 per person. If I am already booked for tours during your stay and there is room in the vehicle you will be welcomed to join the tour with the agreement of the primary client. Or I can connect you with one of my fellow Certified Tour Guides if I am not available.
Aside from that my aim is to make your visit as enjoyable as possible! This is afterall a party nation :)
While this is normally a quiet neighbourhood, like the rest of Port of Spain it can be noisy during Christmas & Carnival.
Carnival next year is on the 12th February & 13th February 2018.
Important cultural difference to note, the day starts at 6.00 a.m. here. Sometimes a little earlier, therefore city noise starts at 6.00 a.m.
My dogs are yard dogs. They do not live in the house. The dogs are contained in the rear yard and rear verandah which is NOT part of the guest accommodation. They do bark at night when necessary as do all the neighbourhood dogs :) They also bark around 6.00 a.m when the city starts coming alive as do all the neighbourhood dogs. Dogs are an essential part of home security in this country. BRING EARPLUGS if you think it will be an issue ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A LIGHT SLEEPER. Also at carnival big trucks can pass at anytime with massive speakers that shakes the neighbourhood. You've been warned :)
This is a dusty city. We get Sahara dust every year for several months. Actually, the entire island experiences varying levels of Sahara dust every year. Free soil from Africa.... nice :) Look it up if you don't believe me :)
Because of previous experiences I am forced to say the following even if it does not sound welcoming:
Please remember that this is my home not an impersonal guest house or motel. When you book to stay with me you are booking to share my home with me. I live here too and Trinidad is a small country. Everyone knows your business usually before you know it. If you are coming to Trinidad for a Tinder/Grinder hook-up or similar experience, do not book to stay with me. Go somewhere impersonal. There are lots of cheap guest houses where you can pay by the hour if you don't want to pay hotel rates. There is no charge for additional guest because no additional guests are allowed and Airbnb does not have an option to say so. No additional guests are allowed and no local visitors are allowed. If you arrive with more people than you booked for, entry will not be permitted. Check in time is anytime at your convenience as long as you have told me your Flight Number and how you plan on getting to my home. Otherwise it is after 3.00 pm and no later than 8.00 pm. Communication is everything with Airbnb :) While you are here I expect you to respect the security of my home and check that you have locked up properly as you come and go. It is in your interest too.
Smoking is permitted in the front verahdah or garden. It is not permitted in the bed room or en suite bathroom or any of the communal rooms - kitchen etc.
Hint: Ladies & gentlemen with long hair, yes your hair looks beautiful, but not in the drains or the floor. It only looks beautiful on your head :) A removal before your departure would be appreciated.
Except for the sound of laughter, please keep noise down to a respectful level.
I want you to have an enjoyable stay, so if you need anything, just ask :)

I have travelled all over the world and lived in several countries. I spent many years in the UK running a live music bar/restaurant/guesthouse. I am now home to stay with no desire to travel anymore except around the Caribbean. My main interest these days are bird watching, photography and sitting on the beach watching the world go by. I work as a tour guide and photographer. Aside from that I listen to audio books, mess around with some arty stuff and play backgammon when I can find an opponent which is not too often unfortunately.
