Custom built waterfront cottage on the Bras D'or Lakes at the start of the world famous Cabot Trail.
This house was custom built and completed in 2012. The original builder was a ship's captain who was inspired by his love of boats and his life at sea and designed the front windows which face the water to echo the lines of a ships hull.
When I first laid eyes on this house, it was love at first sight, and I was completely inspired. I put my heart and soul and energy into finishing it. I was drawn to the abundance of natural light and the endless space. I love to look up and see the sky whether I am in the kitchen doing dishes, curled up with a book in the nook, or relaxing in the antique cast iron tub. In this house, you are surrounded by nature, from the tumbled marble floors, to the granite counters to the local hardwood floors.
Guests will have access to the entire house with the exception of some storage areas.
The kitchen is equipped with a convection oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, indoor grill, stovetop griddle, waffle makers, bread maker, crockpot, coffeemaker with built in grinder and French press. There is a BBQ on the newly constructed deck off the dining room and an outdoor lobster cooker outside on the patio.
(we supply the tanks.)
The entire property is at your disposal including the waterfront which has some adirondack chairs, and a fire pit at which to enjoy the beautiful Bras d'or lakes. The lake water is fairly shallow for 40 feet or so, and is warm and sandy. The water is a mixture of salt water and fresh water as the Baddeck and Nyanza rivers empty into the Bras d'or at our Inlet. We have a canoe by the shore with paddles and lifejackets which are located in a cabinet by the shore. There is a beach house to the left which was completed in January and accommodates our daughter and her boyfriend who is a lobster fisherman. The beach house is not visible from the house and does not impede the view in any way.
The internet in the area is not fibre op and has a tendency to be slow as it's through seaside communications satellite. We are hoping to get an upgrade in the near future.
I live and work nearby and I may be reached at anytime via cell/text.
We have a 10,000 gallon cistern which is underground and forms the base of our outdoor patio. This cistern is fed by filtered rainwater from our expansive roof, then filtered by a sediment filter and a UV filter. Due to the limited nature of our supply we do not waste water unnecessarily. We conserve whenever possible, and only flush when necessary and don't run the water when not in use. (The water is safe to drink, and use a Brita jug downstairs and supply spring water which is in a cooler in the kitchen)
There is a septic bed for the house which should be treated with care. Please don't flush anything other than human waste in the toilets including feminine hygiene products.
Please treat our home as your own.
There is no smoking inside the house.

I am a former airline employee (20+years) who ran a successful bed and breakfast for four years and now works at the Legion in Baddeck.
I love people, travelling, decorating, cooking, baking, renovating and the great outdoors.
My roots are in Cape Breton as my mother's 'people' are from here, and I spent every summer of my formative years on the shores of the Bras d'or - what a gift! I love absolutely everything about this beautiful island and I am proud to call it home. I am really excited to be sharing our gorgeous spot with others so they may fall in love with 'God's country' as so many others have done before them.
My mother always said "follow your heart, and you will always be happy..."
A combination of fate and following my heart have led me to this beautiful place where I truly belong, so I'd have to say my mother was right!
