Our house is a 1 1/2 story shingled cottage at the crest of a hill, overlooking a quiet wooded valley. We are in a "room in the woods" on 7.5 acres near the Gettysburg Battlefield on a quiet country road; Ski Liberty, a small ski and golfing resort, is in the opposite direction across the valley. A steep paved driveway comes up about 500 feet from the road, so the house is quite secluded; at the top there is parking for about five cars. Our nearest neighbor is 150 feet away, and they are very quiet.
Two private rooms are available in our seven room house: one with a single bed, and one with two singles; at the end of the hallway, there is a shared bathroom with a shower. The front bedroom has lots of windows and plants, and it feels a little like a treehouse; the back bedroom feels more secluded, and has a large map of the world wallpapered on one wall. The living space is a "great room" with cathedral ceiling, lots of windows, a wood stove, and a stand-up piano. We have a modest but functional kitchen, and the table where meals are served in is the great room. My wife and I occupy the upstairs; we can share the upstairs bathroom with guests if needed for the morning rush.
The Pikku-Mokki (small cottage) is in the back yard- it houses a sauna and dressing room, an upstairs living-sleeping area for our son, and storage. The sauna is offered to guests who are interested in an alternative bathing experience, a traditional element of Finnish culture.
Our other household residents include two dogs: Minnie, a mid sized border collie-beagle mix, and Ferd(inand) a jack russell mutt. They are friendly, and will greet you along with us on your arrival, but will ignore you the rest of the time.
We do not have central air conditioning, but the great room and the back bedroom are cooled by a through-wall and a window air conditioner respectively. The front bedroom does not have AC, nor do we in our bedroom upstairs- we have mostly acclimated to the weather variations of the seasons, and otherwise deal with it with well placed fans. I think the temparature at our house in the woods is generally 5-10 degrees cooler than in the big city, and we have lots of shade from the big trees surrounding our house, so the heat of summer is not so unpleasant.
Our house is furnished in an eclectic style of some bought, some found, some inherited furniture, artwork and accessories. The decor is inflected decidedly toward music, with the piano mentioned, which has a display "rack" of violins and violas above. You may find a cello in its case in the corner of your bedroom, or a music stand or two set up in the house. Obviously, musician guests are welcome to bring their instruments and play. There is a large deck at the front of the house, adjoining the music room, where my son and I play ping pong periodically, and which can also serve as an "al fresco" eating area, weather permitting.
Our household does not include regular TV, as we realize that most programming is not worth watching. We prefer reading, and we do have wi-fi, as well as a TV- DVD player for watching Redbox movies. On nights when the weather is nice, we sometimes have a campfire out front, make s'mores and look at the stars.
We are located in the heart of "orchard country", apple/ peach/ cherry orcharding being one of Adams County's major industries. Although there are no orchards in our immediate vicinity, there are many related local events and festivals in the area. One of the unfortunate asides of orcharding is the periodic (summertime) influx of "stink bugs", whose main target is the fruit of the orchards, but whose territory extends to all adjacent areas, including our house. I refer to these bugs as "flying tanks", as they are rather clumsy and stupid; they are completely harmless to fauna (us), but emit a somewhat unpleasant, vaguely vegetative chemical odor when they are squashed; they are easily captured but are not susceptible to insecticides. As far as I know, entotmologists are still at a loss about how to deal with them, and they are a serious problem for the orchardists, as they cause considerable damage to crops.
All in all, my wife and I think you will appreciate the modest lodging we are offering, and we will do our best to make your visit pleasant and enjoyable.

I am an Architect. We work out of our studio in the basement of our house. We live near Gettysburg, Pa. My wife Martha and I have three kids, Eliza, Amelia, and Tom (Eliza and Amelia are done with college and moved out), and two dogs named Minnie and Ferd. I am an amateur musician (violin/ viola), and I love to ski, and play chess and other board games. Martha always has lots of hobbies in the works, and she loves to cook special meals for special occasions. We have a casual lifestyle, and living in the country, we are relaxed about people coming and going. As hosts, we welcome you to share our occasional events, like a campfire under the stars, or taking a Finnish sauna, or taking on Tom in a wicked ping-pong session. We will stay out of your way as much as possible, and offer to share our living spaces, refrigerator space, whatever; being home most of the time, security is a lesser concern, and we can help with you getting around the area, and with checking out worthwhile local events and activities.
