Stayed here with my six year old son for 14 days. Perfectly secluded in the jungle while hearing the ocean (3 min walk). Saw monkeys everyday (plus iguanas, butterfly's, hummingbirds, etc). Truly lives like a local! Best to have a car but we didn't so we walked. Host was great on communication and needs!
The house was clean and very comfortable. The AC is outstanding. The kitchen is easy to cook in with lots of storage. Margaret is a hard working lady that never seems to stop. She's always available if you need her and will do anything she can to solve any problems that might occur. The king size bed is extremely comfortable. The house is cozy and charming with the most important part being comfortable. Zancudo is a really beautiful area if you love nature and the people are friendly. It's a very neat way to experience living in the Jungle while feeling at home and safe.
This is truly a jungle house. Iguanas, monkeys, turtles, ant colonies. We were there for a month. Margaret did everything possible to make us comfortable. Air con worked great. New king mattress. Internet. We cooked most of the time in. The kitchen had what we needed. My husband got into making smoothies every day. The fruit truck cam twice a week. We loved that. Zancudo is laid back, friendly town. Takes forever to get there, but once you are there relax and enjoy what it offers. A very special place. We went to the beach in the morning. Came back and read books in the hammock on the porch in the afternoon. Took a bottle of wine to watch the sunset at night. We did a few excursions. The restaurants, were great. Bars are plentiful. Very welcoming community. Definitely do the boat tour through the mangroves. Went to Osa for a couple of days. Bus trip to Pavarones is a must.
Our stay at the Jungle House was magical, the place is incredible. The trip from San Jose to Zancudo is long but it’s well worth it to reach such a natural place that feels away from civilization while still being comfortable. The house is slightly inside the jungle, so it’s among nature and it feels very private. You can see a new creature everyday even without leaving the porch of the house. The beach is only a short walk away and was also very private, we saw other people three times in a month of going there. Both Margaret and her son Nick were very good hosts and always did their best to improve our stay; including letting us pick fresh limes from their yard. The house was comfortable and had most everything we needed for the month. When we arrived Margaret had left us a gift of fresh pineapple and local eggs which we found thoughtful and kind of her. The stove works with a propane tank, it lasted us the entire month and we cooked for ourselves the majority of the time. If anyone decides to enjoy this house as much as we did please take care of Iggy, the Iguana at the end of the sidewalk. We liked him enough to name him and quite fond of seeing him most every day and feeding him various fruits. The location fit our leisure mode perfectly as we could walk anywhere. For quicker shopping needs we frequented the neighboring convenience store and when we felt like exploring we walked a few miles down the road to another store with different items. A few restaurants were closed but we quickly found favorites and returned to them. Sol Y Mar was a bit of a walk, though worth it as the food is fast, friendly, and flavorful. The atmosphere is unlike anything we've ever experienced. Bring plenty of mosquito repellent and plan to use it for extended periods outside. Mind the sunscreen when playing on the beach. Give your clothes a while to dry as the humidity is usually high. All minor adjustments for the stay but well worth it to experience such a truly magnificent part of the world. We would return to Costa Rica, to Zancudo, and to this rental property without hesitation. Thank you Margaret and Nick for a memorable and pleasant month.
We spent two weeks to Zancudo surrounded with wild nature where crickets, iguanas, monkeys, parrots, toucans, geckos visited us. The sea, nearby, was strong at times but we had only to walk a little to find a peaceful sea. A magnificent place with very nice people. Margaret was a helper in several respects (medicine, repair of a flat tyre) and the house was well equipped.
Margaret was very accommodating in help us to find our way to Zancudo. The description was accurate and the house was nicer than expected. We are a very busy small business family and greatly appreciated the seclusion that this house provided, including the occasional visit from a white face monkey, Iguanas and howler monkeys. The short trip into Zancudo was facilitated by the very reasonable bike rental from Margaret. The local shop owner was also very helpful.
