Our cottage is cozy and well-equipped. It backs on to Conservation land and offers private lake frontage (across street). Walk to Leland shopping, Lake Michigan access, and Whaleback trailhead. Perfect home to explore Leelanau County--hiking, wine tours, nature, biking, kayaking. 30 minute drive to Traverse City- foodie heaven.
The property exudes the old fashioned charm of a summer cottage in a picturesque rural fishing town. An antique cottage, built around 1900, first winterized for year-round living in the mid 40's by my grandparents, the wall to the basement still carries the autographs of early guests- from around 1915. It has been lovingly restored over the years by us, the Ball family, who have owned the property for over 60 years. We are thrilled to share it with you.
The bedrooms are 3 upstairs with a queen bed in the green room, a single bed in the little bedroom, and a queen and single in the large bedroom. Downstairs is a queen with en-suite half bath. The shared full bath is also downstairs.
The cottage has been carefully modernized, has a well-equipped kitchen, and hotel quality linens. Our guests often remark on how comfortable they are while staying here.
If you are interested in renting 2 kayaks or a canoe, this can be arranged as an added service.
Guests are welcome to enjoy private lake frontage-crossing M-22, where a dock and swim platform are available during the summer season. There are woods to the rear of the property to wander in and a hiking trail- Whaleback Conservancy- to enjoy.
The entire house is yours to call home, except the basement, which is off limits for safety reasons.
You will find a binder full of good information about the cottage and surrounding area. We are nearby for questions and emergencies but, do not reside on the property. Happy to help with questions about the house and Leelanau County, shoot us a text!
The cottage sits on Lake Leelanau near the village of Leland, Michigan, surrounded by natural beauty and conservation easements. It is a quiet rural village. There is a grocery store and restaurants in Leland and Lake Leelanau. The nightlife is more about stargazing and night swimming.
Leland is a great, central location for exploring nature, wineries, the National Sleeping Bear Dunes Park and not far from Foodie town--Traverse City!
The cottage is enjoyed and cared for by the fourth generation of our family. It is a sweet old place that we hope you will treat with care. Expect all the quirks and charm that come with an aged property.
We do appreciate shoes being left at the door.
No smoking or pets.
Be considerate of our neighbors. Quiet time from 10:00pm- 7:00 am is appreciated.
Please use the fireplace with care, always with the screen in place. Be sure that your fire is completely out before going to bed or leaving the cottage.
