The Bothy is on a working farm and equestrian centre on edge of 'The Little Red town' of Kirriemuir, gateway to the Angus Glens in the east of Scotland.
The Bothy has a simple, modern feel with an integrated kitchen and living area, wood burning stove (with real wood), TV, stereo, etc. Downstairs in the living area it has a very comfy double bed settee and lots of soft furnishings. We want you to be very comfortable. Upstairs we have a compact mezzanine area with a fabulous Kingsize bed. In total the accommodation sleeps 2 but can accommodate up to 4. We would like to bring to your attention that the stairs are steep and may not be suitable for children or people with mobility issues. The Whole house is centrally heated but also has the added benefit of a wood burning stove. Cooking is by gas and the shower is fantastic and an ideal pressure! We will provide a breakfast hamper on arrival for your first morning which includes, porridge, free range local eggs, locally made jam, croissants, milk and butter. Any other specifics can be requested prior to arrival.
Guests will be given their own key and can come and go as they wish. The farm is open access to all and we enjoy the public walking their dogs or just wandering round our tracks. The Bothy is on the edge of the farm therefore if you are not "horsey" then you are a distance away from the stables. Ours is a working yard so "horsey" activities are going on all the time. Access to the town centre is approx. five minutes (Doon the brae and up the other side) We have lots of nice pubs and tearooms and Ice cream shops in the town centre. Great wee local called the Kerymor Tavern (The hole in the wa') is just down the road from the farm - three minutes away. We have a bus stop right at our door so Forfar and Dundee are no distance away. There's lots of bonny areas around the farm to sit outside.
We will try to meet and greet u on your pre arranged arrival time. However if this is not possible we will leave the keys in a secure place for you and we will check in with you later to answer any questions that you may have. Once we pass over the keys, we will leave you to your own devices and not interfere unless u wish our input! We are always happy to help guests in the right direction. Any specific needs can be sorted as long as we know in advance and as long as they are within our power to do. Parting of the Red Sea is getting tricky otherwise we do our best. Our staff are friendly, efficient and (if horsey) qualified to relevant ABRS standards. If you are considering a horsey holiday that's great but please have a chat with us prior to booking. We run a very busy yard and ask that any bookings from our visitors be made in advance where-ever possible. We are a family firm with lots of bairns and animals going about (sometimes hard to separate) Please don't feed any of them for the simple reason, you'll never get rid of them. We are dog friendly but your dog has to be friendly too or at least kept on a lead. Happy to have them but please respect our rules (see below).
IMPORTANT NOTE: We welcome horses and have full box facilities BUT any horse coming on our yard has to fulfill all quarantine procedures (please discuss needs with Susan our yard manager prior to any visit).
We have created a home from home feel that we are very proud of and as a result there are no rules as such..... However, there are some polite requests!
-We ask that you do not have outdoor footwear on carpets and rugs
-We ask that u wash any used dishes prior to leaving
-We ask that you are careful when opening the fire when it is on as sparks may fly out.
-We ask that you and loved ones are careful going up and down the stairs as they are steep.
-This is non-smoking accommodation. If you smoke please do so outside and leave cigarette ends in the sand bucket provided.
-Although well behaved pets are welcome, please ensure that they do not go upstairs and ensure that they stay off the furniture.
-If you would like to book any riding or horse activities, please be advised that this would ideally be done at booking or at the earliest opportunity. We run a busy yard, spaces may be limited and we would hate to disappoint.
-Please ensure dogs are kept on a lead when on the farm and that children are monitored this is to ensure they are safe from passing traffic coming and going from the yard.
- please enjoy yourself and relax and do not worry about the cleaning of "The Bothy" before you leave. You are on holiday remember!!!!
