We are located in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, near the Barclay Center, BAM, and the Atlantic Ave/Barclay Center subway stop, which services most lines and also the Long Island Railroad. Convenient rail transportation to airport, one stop into Manhattan.
The apartment is newly renovated with a brand new bathroom and everything is in great shape. We live upstairs and will be on hand to greet you and answer any questions. The location is fantastic: three blocks from the Atlantic Terminal/Barclay Center subway stop which connects to 9 subway lines (4,5,2,3,R,N,B,D,Q), two of which are one stop into Manhattan. This is also the Brooklyn stop for the LIRR which is the fastest and cheapest way to get to and from JFK airport if you don't take a cab--we can give you the details of how to do this if you choose. We are walking distance to BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music arts center), Park Slope, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and all of the great cafes and restaurants that are available in these neighborhoods. Prospect Park and DUMBO, with the waterfront park are about 1/2 hour walk or 5 minute subway ride. We are kid friendly and you are welcome to cook in our fully equipped kitchen and use the washer/dryer in the apartment.
We keep one closet locked for our private use. Otherwise full acess to the rest of the apartment: a large closet in the bedroom, a bureau kept empty in the bedroom, and of course all of the rest of the apartment. We own the building and live upstairs. You will be the only other guests in the building with a shared main entryway/stairway with us.
We will be generally available, living upstairs as I said. If we happen to be out of town while you are visiting, we will have someone else available for keys drop off and return, and will be available via text and telephone to answer any questions. We rent out the storefront downstairs, on Fourth Avenue, to an artist, Steve Powers, who has a pop-up sign shop that is open six days a week, and this are another contact place for asking questions or needing any help if we are not immediately available. Also check out his shop and his work! Amazing!
While in a fantastic location, it is worth noting that the building is on a well-traveled thoroughfare. While many guests have not felt a call for it, the bedroom, which faces Fourth Avenue, has a white noise machine for those who might be sensitive to traffic and city noise. There is one queen size bed and the other bed is a queen size fold-out couch. It is a very comfortable fold out (we have slept on it ourselves!). We can also provide a single air mattress bed for small children sleeping in parents' bedroom if desired.
There is one flight of stairs up to the apartment.
We expect our guests to be respectful of our home, and to leave it as they found it. We don't want late night partying or lots of noise after about 11:00 p.m. We ask for no shoes in the house, and have provided a shoe hutch just outside the door for convenience. We expect our guests to respect our other house rules such as no smoking, no pets, and always locking the doors. But essentially we think that good communication is the key to a successful visit for all concerned!
I have lived in Brooklyn for thirty years. My wife is a native New Yorker. I recently went to Italy and also Wyoming for an artist residency. I love (and bake) sour cherry pies.
