Five bed-roomed luxury house with three bathrooms accommodating up to 12 people. Balcony overlooking Clew Bay and deck out the back overlooking Croagh Patrick Mountain.
This is our second home. It is a beach house in the West of Ireland at Old Head beach, Louisburgh, Westport, Co. Mayo. ((SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) images: Old Head Beach, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo).
Louisburgh is the gateway to Connemara & from there it is only 1.5 hrs drive to Galway. The drive from Louisburgh through the Doo lough Pass has been voted one of the 10 most beautiful in the world by Conde Naste.
For those who want a little bit more than just swimming, boating and surfing there are at least two adventure centers, Delphi being the most famous, within easy reach of our house .
There is a wonderful documentary done for the BBC in 2017 (Wild Ireland: The Edge of the World), by Colin Stafford Johnson, the Award Winning Nature cinematographer, who lives in Clew bay which is well worth looking at to give an idea of the true beauty and magic of this part of the world!!.
Our house is in a spectacular setting on Clew Bay, a stones throw to the beach. Adjacent to our house is the OldHead caravan park which in addition to having a very good cafe with good wifi where you can bring your own wine, has a tennis court which guests are welcome to use (we have plenty of tennis racquets)..
The nearest local village, Louisburgh, is 2 kms which is a lovely stroll or cycle along the back roads.
Louisburgh is a heritage town & though small, you will find everything you would expect to find in a small country town such as a butcher, supermarket, hairdresser, post office, chemist, pubs and restaurants and news agency. 15 - 18 minutes drive brings you to Westport. This is a charming town and Westport is a popular tourist destination and scores highly for Quality of Life. It has also won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition three times in 2001, 2006 and 2008; In 2012 it also won the Best Place to Live in Ireland which is no mean feat.
We have a kayak - a 4 man (2 adults & 2 children) and a brazier on the deck to sit outside on those starry nights!.
The balcony off the living room is perfect for having that early morning coffee or that digestif before the sun goes down on Clew Bay!.
If you wish to make your own music, there is a digital piano at your disposal & a large collection of music CD's.
There is an open fire in the living room and, even in the height of summer, there's nothing nicer than lighting a turf fire and thawing out after a day spent surfing and swimming in the Atlantic Ocean!
If you don't fancy watching TV or a DVD why not choose a book from the big selection available on the book shelves.
The kitchen is off the living room and is fully equipped with everything one would expect with a new house. There is a dishwasher, fridge-freezer, micro-wave, double oven, sound system, toaster, and crockery and cutlery for more than twelve people. There is also a seating area in the kitchen with a sofa and coffee table.
Off the kitchen is a lovely sun deck. The deck is south facing so is a sun trap and on a clear day you can see Craogh Patrick, one of Ireland's most famous mountains with its little church perched on top. There are recliners & a table and chairs outside on the deck for all that Al fresco dining you do in Ireland!.
The living area is all upstairs to take advantage of the spectacular views.
Downstairs there are five bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king size bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. This bedroom has an en suite bathroom with shower toilet and wash hand basin. This bathroom has underfloor heating.
The second bedroom has four beds two of which are bunk beds and two singles, one which slides under the other, which could be singles or can be put together to make a super king. The third bedroom is a cosy bunk room and sleeps two. The fourth bedroom is a double bedroom with an en suite which is shared with the fifth bedroom which makes it ideal for a second family. The fifth bedroom has two single beds with the en suite which is shared with the fourth bedroom. This bedroom has its own separate private entrance. The main bathroom has a full jacuzzi bath, electric shower, toilet and hand basin. This bathroom also has underfloor heating.
All the bedrooms have electric heating which can be activated at the flip of a switch. The upstairs living area has storage heaters which have timers.
There is an iron, hairdryer and CD player in the master bedroom.
The facilities outside the house include, garden chess, sun loungers and a gas barbecue not to mention a brazier which is lovely to sit beside on those clear evenings when you want to stay outside after dark and look at the beautiful stars which are so visible as there is no light pollution.
There are two sheds in the gardens of the house. One of the sheds has a washing machine and a dryer. The other garden shed is normally well stocked with locally sourced turf for those cosy evenings by the fire!. Also you will find in here sun loungers and wet-suits and life-jackets which you are welcome to borrow should you wish to experience a fresh dip in the Atlantic!.
There are two entrances to the house and car parking spaces at the front and the back.

The owners would be delighted to offer any assistance during the stay that would enhance and enrich the visit to Oldhead. There is also a folder in the house with lots of information on activities and sightseeing in the area. In addition the owner is an accredited ESL (English as a second language) teacher and if the guests would like to enroll in a course of English lessons during their stay that can be arranged for an additional cost. Also, if guests would like a tour guide of the area that can also be arranged for an additional cost. Painting classes and Pottery and Cookery workshops can also be arranged on request.
In the summer there is a four person kayak available for guest use at their own risk. Lots of wonderful caves to explore in the bay..
There are three adult bikes for use by guests. It is a lovely cycle along the back road in to Louisburgh which is only 2kms away.
We would like to advise guests that as our house is on an elevated site in accessing the house there are steps both at the front and the back of the house so do bear this in mind if you have someone in your party who is not able to manage stairs. Also there is an open stairs in the living room which means extra vigilance with young children. We expect guests to treat the house as they would their own and we would respectfully ask that guests leave the house in the state in which they find it on arrival. Much appreciated. Thanks!.

I am a teacher of Music, French & English.. I live in Dublin by the sea and the beach house in the west of Ireland is my holiday home. I love travel and I love to also welcome travellers to my home. Being a language teacher I am very interested in other cultures and languages. In addition to offering my home to rent, as a qualified English teacher, another option I offer is combining a stay in my home with intensive English lessons for foreign guests. I offer this for an additional fee where I will come and give English lessons and also act as a guide if required as I have also worked in incoming tourism. Please enquire separately about this as this is separate to airbnb.. OldHead beach is a very special place and once you have visited I hope you will fall under it's spell as I did eighteen years ago when I visited it for the first time and fell in love with it.
