In the jungle in the Maya Mountains foothills, this small eco-friendly inn is situated on an organic cacao farm. Creeks and trails on the property, off the grid with solar and generator power, a small restaurant for guests, great for bird watchers. Twice daily bus service between Punta Gorda and Jalacte passes the property on a good paved road. Pick up/drop off by arrangement. Quiet and off the beaten track - good for solitude seekers and nature lovers. Dogs on property.

กฎของที่พัก

People who love nature, respect their environment and have a sense of humor are welcome. Off the beaten track with the usual challenges of living in the jungle, solar and generator power only, we welcome bird watchers and nature lovers who can appreciate solitude and understand that sometimes things go wrong! We respect nature and share our space with a variety of jungle inhabitants. Not the ideal place for people who are intimidated by spiders and other creepy crawlies.

I can honestly say that my stay in the Woodpecker garden cabana was one of the highlights of my time in Belize. Set in the jungle near a small Mayan village in the heart of the Toledo district, it was the perfect base for exploring this unspoiled area. Kevin and his son, Dylan, were generous hosts and it felt like I was visiting with friends, hearing all their tales of setting off from Cape Town to sail around the world but spending years all over south and Central America before settling in Belize. I unfortunately didn't get to meet Renee (this time!) as the family are also involved in a yacht charter business in Placencia. The cabana is located privately in Kevin and Renee's vast 50+ acre farm which is mostly jungle with superb walks, a hill top bird watching tower, surrounded by crystal clear creeks to dip in. I am a dog lover, so when Kevin offered to lock up their gorgeous dogs of course I said no, and had so much fun exploring in the jungle and jumping into the creek with them. There is even a small Mayan ruin on the property to explore. The cabana itself was clean, comfortable and decorated with beautiful mahogany and other local wood furniture. There is warm water if you want it, but the generator does not run permanently as there is a strong desire on the farm to minimise their impact on the environment. Going to sleep and waking up in the morning to the sounds of the jungle was such a joy. If you ask in advance, you can discover how chocolate is made! Even though I hadn't, Kevin was happy to walk me around his young cocoa and coffee plantation, and show me the cocoa bean drying shed. It smelled like heaven. You can also arrange in advance for dinner, which I did - and I was so glad I did as it was delicious and way too much food. Breakfast is included in the room price and was also a feast with fresh local fruit, fried plantain, eggs and bacon, and my absolute favourite, fried jacks. There is more I could tell you about the farm but I don't want to spoil all the surprises for you. Kevin and Renee, thank you for an amazing stay, for helping me sort out my travel issues, and for creating this jungle paradise!

I manage a busy yacht charter operation and am co-owner of The Farm Inn, an organic chocolate farm with a guesthouse and restaurant, which is run by my husband Kevin, who lives on the farm. We sailed our own yacht from South Africa to the Caribbean with our children who are now adults with their own families. We have been working in the hospitality industry for 15 years and enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and introducing them to the beauty of southern Belize. We love the simple life, being at one with nature and keeping it real. Kevin is very practical and loves the farming aspect of our business, learning daily from the Mayan people around us. I love birding and generally spend my days at The Farm Inn with binoculars glued to my face and a reference book in hand.
We like people who are interested in everything around them, who join in and who understand that "off the grid" means no air conditioning and slow internet service to no internet service at times. We love dogs and have four big friendly dogs who are part of the family, so expect our guests to acept their presence
