Kathy & John were wonderful hosts. We were their inaugural, paying, guests at their Sunny Studio! When we arrived they escorted us down the exterior stone staircase to the studio apartment in the lower level of their octagonal shaped, renovated, school house with a southern exposure and views over the river. It was very new, well kept, and clean. They helped us settle in by walking us through it's features including items provided for our use (yogurt & milk in the frig), scones, granola, jam, tea, etc. They also provided suggestions on restaurants in the area, coffee shops, and sandwich places. They invited us to freely walk the trails (nicely mowed) throughout their property and we enjoyed visiting the pottery gallery on the first floor of the school house above us. We also walked through John's pottery studio and saw his work drying on the racks. Kathy and John were kind and generous spirits and John's pottery (as well as other artists too) was for sale by way of the honor system (if no one is there, select the priced piece you'd like and leave your payment in a box). It made us feel like we were living in a wonderfully trusting world again. The Red Cedar Trail is nearby and in the morning after our first night's stay, we hopped on our bikes and rode down the Red Cedar Trail to the Chippewa Trail, all the way to Durand, WI and back. It was a gorgeous bike ride. We had dinner up in Menomonie, WI, both nights but cooked breakfasts in the fully stocked kitchen in the Sunny Studio. We had a wonderfully relaxing and quiet weekend stay and the morning we left, John came by with some freshly picked organic potatoes and tomatoes from their garden for us to take home with us. When I got home, I realized I'd forgotten a cosmetic item in the medicine cabinet and emailed them about it and they were kind enough to sent it to me. There were no TVs (which was fine with us), but there was WiFi to get maps of the bike trails, etc. We brought a little Bluetooth stereo of our own as we love background music. We very much enjoyed our stay ... and our hosts!
