Relax and not make a loud noise
Teerachai is a fabulous and accommodating host. He will gladly sit down to have tea with you and really does his best to make you feel at home. He personally called taxis for us, which was very helpful because most of the line operators in the area don't speak English. And, one night where we couldn't find a taxi to hail and none were available over the call line, he went so far as to pick us up from the downtown area himself. Note that the location is closest to the airport. It's too far outside the city center to get to and from there without taking a taxi. Obviously don't come to Charn Mansion expecting a 5-star hotel. It's a simple small apartment complex, but it includes all the basic amenities you'll need for a short stay. The air conditioning and Wi-Fi both work very well. The room is clean and comes with a nice bed, refrigerator, and closet/dresser space. One thing to note: the bathroom is adjoined via an outdoor patio area, not inside the room. This results in a number of ants scurrying around the bathroom at times, but nothing too major. It never detracted from our experience at all. Also note that there is no separation barrier between the shower, toilet, and sink, which is typical for a lot of Asia, but can be a bit of a shock to Westerners. Teerachai did everything he could to make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible, and I highly recommend him as a host. English is not his first language, but he speaks it very well. He was able to have deep conversations with us, far beyond just "getting by." And he's native Thai, so he can provide all the support you need communicating with locals who only speak that. He can also speak to the local culture and provide recommendations of what to see and do in the area. If you want a great host and a quiet, peaceful place to stay in Ubon, this fits the bill perfectly.
