"Restful, welcoming and cozy," that's house our place has been described. All are welcome at Mallory House to enjoy our large, second floor 1 BD apartment, minutes walk to Alberta District- enjoy organic bedding, towels, cooking essentials, plus local/Fair Trade art- a relaxing place for guests to enjoy Portland's best! We (our family and quiet loving dog) live below-welcome to Portland!
We wanted to create a welcoming, beautiful place for our guests to enjoy what we (and our sustainable city) strive to be about- so we chose to offer all organic/eco friendly bedding and towels, feature local, upcycled and or fair trade art/furnishings and offer organic/local or fair trade foodstuffs in the fully equipped kitchen. We used low VOC paint, installed marmoleum floors and accented some 100 plus year old details throughout our space. We hope the space feels restful and welcoming to come back to after a day of getting to know our local neighborhoods- within minutes/blocks are the Williams, Mississippi and or Alberta Arts neighborhoods or greater Portland and all it has to offer. Mallory House is a bright spacious 1 bedroom apt, that has a comfie pullout double futon couch in the living room that could be easily made into another bed, for another guest. Curtains drawn and privacy abounds. We now have a stroller, high chair and packnplay (with organic sheet for mattress)- families with small children who travel deserve only the best. We also have a bike available too. Great neighborhood walk ability/bikeability. There are a couple helmets you can use for the City's rent a bike rack down the street. All are welcome at Mallory House. We want to make your stay as nice as it can be away from home.
You will have your own entrance and stairwell to get up to your spacious 1 bedroom apartment. While staying at Mallory House, drink our fair trade/organic coffee (or espresso) or tea and be connected via Wifi and use our smart/Prism cable tv with loads of shows and movies and or enjoy our growing library of books- local and international authors. Explore bike friendly Portland or hop on the bus/Max (lightrail) -blocks away to zip downtown in minutes or walk just a few blocks to artsy Alberta/Mississippi neighborhood. (Our neighborhood rated high on walkability/bike-ability. ) Local food/sites: Great ethnic and vegan food carts at Piedmont Station, PCC Cascade Campus, Peninsula Rose Garden, Old Towne Brewery and Alberta/Mississippi neighborhood and the great arts venue "The Abbey" are all very near. The # 72 and #6 bus access are all within blocks. (Will have GPS maps for lots of sites.) You have your own entry with a key and key to upstairs as well, please keep these doors locked for your and our security. Laundromat is 3 blocks away. Checkout is at 11 as we take many hours to clean before the next guests come. Checkin at 4, Sometimes we can be flexible- just ask! We (2 teens/2 adults and a Great Pyrenees/Golden dog ) live downstairs, thanks for keeping quiet hours for us and our neighbors 11-7. Our dog does not run free in the yard unless we are out there too and will not be in your space. If you want to meet her, let us know. She's a super gentle, loving, big dog. Thank you!
I/we try and take your lead. We'd like to welcome you, we look forward to meeting you, to showing you your new home/space and to giving you some information to make your stay easy and relaxing. If you have any questions, we are just a text, call away (or if we're in our kitchen say hi!) as we live downstairs. Let us know what we can do to make this a trip you won't forget!
There's a great little pocket park to the north of us that is great to hang out (smoke if you like here and on the sidewalk) but take the butts and dispose of them please) and enjoy the urban scene. You might just see a scene from Portlandia unfold in front of you! You're welcome to enjoy the front yard garden and let us know what you'd like to pick for dinner, and we'll see what's available. It's an old (1911) Portland style charming house- we don't have central AC, ( but with a great attic fan and open windows everyone sleeps well) every once in awhile we have to wait for the hot water to catch up with the users ( sorry but early morning very occasionally can be at a premium) and the wood floor creeks, but we are used to it- so no worries! We have had so few complaints over the years and appreciate your patience. Everyone that stays with us has appreciated its old house beauty despite a bit of quirkiness!
This is your space during your stay and we want you to feel welcome. There are a few things we absolutely need from you -we can't have drugs, smoking (of any kind) inside or loud parties, sorry. (We and others have smoke sensitivity) Mallory House needs to stay absolutely smoke free to be as welcoming as possible. We try to be good neighbors and since there are folks below (us!) and in front and the side of you, like any neighborhood, we ask for quiet hours 11-7. Thanks for keeping this home respectful to our neighbors- that is what building community is all about. We can't welcome your pets, sorry, we are trying to keep our apartment as allergy free as possible. We love welcoming our Airbnb guests and their friends/family however we can't have approved Airbnb members invite others to "use" their membership to stay at Mallory House while they stay somewhere else. We want to keep things transparent and connected to Airbnb. Please park in front of our house or in front of park to minimize hassle for our neighbors, thanks.
As the owners, we are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises. We also are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of our guests. Due to City Short Term Regulations, we cannot have more than 5 people at one time, sadly. Thanks so much for understanding. We are happy to welcome you to our home!
