After reading the description and only good feedback from other guests we were sure our 8 days stay in Sam’s would be perfect. It wasn't! Especially not the start of it. Don't go there and ruin your holidays!
When we booked, Sam told us that he wouldn't be there on the day of our arrival and give the keys to the concierge. It started off with the concierge not knowing anything of our arrival. He didn't even know Sam's name and kept asking us for a flat number which we didn't know we needed and Sam forgot to tell us. At least he gave us his sister's phone number who was supposed to help us if needed. The call went straight to voice mail. Only because the concierge did everything possible, after half an hour of crisis the concierge reached Sam and got his permission to give us the key. Entering the flat we met Sam's very nice but even more surprised two housemates who themselves have just lived there one and two weeks at that time. They had no idea about any AirBnB guests, but still had the courtesy to welcome us and tell us the most important things. When we asked them when Sam would come back we got the answer that we wouldn't since he was moving to New York.
Sam definitely failed as a host. Thumbs up for the concierge William and Sam's two housemates.
The room itself was small, there was easily visible dust everywhere and the linen on the bed had visible stains and were not fresh. There was mould on the window shade. The bathroom in the upper floor was dirty, almost disgusting and there was a chronic lack of toilet paper so we bought a pack after two days. When we contacted Sam about everything we got a simple apology with the explanation that he and the concierge were expecting us a week earlier although we arrived on the correct date and which totally didn't explain why the room and bed were as they were! Also Sam's sister Lotte, who officially also lived in the flat but was never seen, changed the linen the next day and put a bottle of wine, cookies and a card with apologies in the room. When we wanted to use the washing machine which was the most disgusting machine we've ever seen. Mould all over it! As we stayed eight days and had no real contact person, we had to use the same towels the whole stay.
The area was great and really good for exploring London also because the tube stations are in zone 2. The view from the balcony was pretty good. Not to mention the great concierges and the helpful housemates.
We only stayed at Sam's place because we didn't want to cancel our holidays and simply had no alternative. We tried to be out as much as possible in the great city of London and only be in the flat for sleeping.
