We are a small farm in the country just south of Albuquerque. The casita is a small 650 sq. ft. guesthouse overlooking our pond and agricultural fields. The guesthouse has a full kitchen, one bedroom with a queen bed, and 2 extra futons in the living room and sunroom.
While out in the quiet country, our small farm is located within a short distance (7 miles) to both the airport and downtown Albuquerque. You will be close to everything while being in the quiet of the country with only the sounds of the geese, sandhill cranes, bullfrogs, and the neighborhood farm animals to distract you. We are within a 1 mile walk of both the Rio Grande bosque (forest alongside the river) and the new wildlife refuge, Valle de Oro. If you are into birding and wildlife, this is the perfect place to be for a trip to Albuquerque.
We have a small farm with a few acres and a small pond, poultry- ducks, geese, and chickens, gardens, and fruit trees. Duck eggs, produce, and fruit are available in season upon request.
There is a full kitchen and bathroom. The bedroom has a queen size bed. The living room has a futon, that doubles as a queen-size bed, looking over the comfy wood pellet stove. The unheated sunroom also has a full-size futon for use spring through fall. There is a dining room table that can also be used for a great working space looking out over our property. A comfy pellet stove provides heat as well as additional electric baseboard heat throughout the house. For the heat of the summer, we have an evaporative cooler. If you are from outside the southwest, let me know and I can explain an evaporative cooler to you.
Feel free to visit the pond and the yard around the guesthouse. If we are around and you want a tour of the rest of the farm, we would love to show you. We can also show you where to go for beautiful walks in the neighborhood. There is a map of nice walks in the neighborhood on our Flora Fauna Farm website.
Our house is on the other side of the driveway. If we are around, just knock on the door (or look for us in the gardens or field). If not, we will make sure you have our cellphone numbers. In the unlikelihood we are out of town, or unavailable at work, we will make sure you have contact information.
Let us know if you have any questions or want any advice on the area. Badger, our dog, may be outside during the day. He loves everyone, maybe a little too much. However, when guests are around, we will keep him inside as much as possible. Let me know when you are arriving so I can make sure he is inside and we can introduce him to you.
If you are interested in produce from our gardens, look for Flora Fauna Farm on social media to see what's available this week.
No smoking in the house. Quiet time after 11 pm.
We love pets and are happy to host your well-behaved pet. However, if you want to bring your pet, please talk to me first. All pets must be kept off of the furniture and on a leash any time outside of the house. Due to the extra time required to clean up and vacuum after pets, we ask that you count your pets as an additional person when booking (an extra $6 charge).
We are biologists that run a small farm in the south valley of Albuquerque. We are raising ducks, geese, and sheep as well as selling produce and fruit. We love good fresh local food and hopefully can give you good recommendations. We love to hike and explore the outdoors and we enjoy taking walks from our place down to the river in the evening. Jenny has been in New Mexico off and on a little over 10 years and travelled the country as a wildlife biologist for around 15 years before ending up here. Graeme grew up in Albuquerque but left for awhile for school and work. We came back to Albuquerque in 2015 and were extremely lucky to have found this place to settle down and relax in.
