Roxane's place is beautiful and just as described. There was plenty of space in the bedroom and large ensuite bathroom for two of us, a beautiful view from the window, information about the local area, and even cookies and hot chocolate! Roxane seemed to anticipate all of our needs and was a lovely host from beginning to end. I highly recommend a stay at Plaegan House when you visit Guildford.
Roxane has a very comfortable home with a wonderful garden in a quiet road within reasonable walking distance of Guildford station. Roxane is a warm and generous hostess and has put a lot of thought into making her guests' stay as good as possible. I would have no hesitation in recommending her home.
Guildford feedback: the property is located within 15 min of uphill walk from Guildford town center and Railway station (London Waterloo station is only 45 min away by fast train). If you have physical limitation of walking steep slope, driving is advisable as parking is available onsite. The property is quite a nice one with neatly decorated and nicely maintained. We stayed in a room overlooking the beautiful back garden that could accommodate 3 guests with 3 single beds. The beds were a bit short though, and the pillows were not comfortable to sleep on. The ensuite bathroom is quite spacious and fresh towels were provided. Milk, tea, some biscuits and hot chocolate were provided by the host. The mini-fridge in the room has drinks stocked @ £1 a drink; we noticed the fridge was not switched on, and the milk had curdled next day. The kettle needs better maintenance though, as we noticed scales built-up in it. The host gave us some options for an English breakfast at £7 or a simple cereals at £1. If you prefer not to have either one, you can walk down to town center for other options. The first night we stayed, the power had tripped in the middle of night. We realised it in the morning as we were leaving for London and tried reaching the host living in ground floor with no avail. Fortunately there was someone else who was staying there, who attempted to search for the fuse box and finally managed to find one and reset. This kinda resulted in not able to charge our mobile phones in time for our London visit leading to phones running flat by afternoon. Pet lovers / haters: 2 lovely cats are present but they do not disturb you at all.
Apologies for the aspects of your stay which were not ideal. The power cut was extremely unusual and unlucky. We have made a note of your other comments and will take them on board for future visitors. The kettle showed the result of living in a hard water area; there is always a build up of scale which is the reason the kettles have filters. They are cleared regularly but inevitably will produce this scaling. Pillows provided are one synthetic and one feather, thicker and thinner, so guests can choose which they prefer. We could perhaps have worked out a thicker, harder one if you needed it, as we have an assortment. Thank you for taking the time to give your comments.
I went with two people, shared a room. The room is a good size, enough for each of us, however the beds are short but very comfortable. The en-suite is big and luxurious. There are good cereals for a cheap £1. Roxane maintains beautiful gardens, and a clean, stylish house, in a quiet residential estate on a hill. TLDR; Clean, quiet, cereal for £1.
I have taken note of my guests' comments about beds and have ordered new, long euro-sized beds for one of my rooms. The second room I am reluctant to change because the mattresses are very comfortable and were expensive.....I will check feedback on the new bed length and mattresses before changing the second room.
