Henshaw House, 20 Huntington Mews, is a beautiful recently refurbished 3 bedroom house, sleeps 4 plus a baby. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in an elevated position (unaffected by floods in December 2015), just 12 minutes walk from city walls and 15 minutes to the Minster. Master bedroom has a comfy double bed with sprung slatted base and shower room en-suite, the two single bedrooms each have a comfy full size single bed with sprung-slatted base and there is an upstairs family bathroom with bath and thermostatic power shower.
Milk, biscuits and tea, coffee and sugar are included, along with soap, shampoo and conditioner and thick fluffy towels and good quality bed linen. As the property is self-catering breakfast is not included.
There is a pleasant garden with seating and retractable washing line. The kitchen-diner comfortably seats four (there is an extra chair in the second bedroom if you require it). There is a microwave, large fridge and under-counter freezer and dishwasher. There is a downstairs WC. The property is centrally heated. There is free wifi and a wii games console, a freeview hd 32" flatscreen tv with dvd player and plenty of films and books to keep you entertained. If you are staying more than a week, we can arrange a full change of towels and linen and additional cleaning, if required, for a fee of £35 (or just £20 for fresh towels and linen). We don't provide a cot for hygiene reasons, but we have a booster feeding seat which fits to a dining chair and a stair gate (has to placed across a door as the landing staircase isn't suitable for a gate). 2 night stays may not always be available during half terms and holidays etc - please contact me to ask. The house has fully wired in smoke alarms, safety restrictors on windows and fully opening windows for emergency escape (kept locked with key nearby for child safety), and a carbon monoxide alarm inside the boiler cupboard. With children in mind, most of the furniture has been attached to the walls to avoid any toppling incidents. All the bedroom curtains have black-out lining to ensure a good night's sleep and there is a plug-in night light on the landing which automatically comes on at night. We also supply an emergency box of supplies that you may have forgotten or may need, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, plasters, deodorant, sewing kit, baby wipes, razors, etc. Some people have managed to park 3 cars on the 2 allocated spaces as there is plenty of room; there is usually some free on-street parking available too, especially at weekends. We pride ourselves on providing a really clean, well equipped and comfortable home-from-home for our guests. Please note that stays of 1 week or more already have discounts applied to the rates.
Directions; From York station, taxis are readily available by the exit. The journey to Henshaw House, Huntington Mews by taxi should by no more than 10-15 minutes and cost around £10.
Or take the number 5 bus towards Stensall for 6 stops. Alight opposite Haxby Road School. Head south on Haxby Road towards Greenfields. Turn left on to White Cross Road and then turn right towards Huntington Mews.
Transport to the city centre; Either a 12 minute walk or the no.13 bus stops on the Huntington Road, 5 minutes walk from the house (just past Ramsay Close which leads to Huntington Mews) and goes all the way to the city walls in a few minutes (alight at Monk Bar).
You have the entire house during your stay. Check in is from 3pm, check out 10am. I will text or email you a keybox code the day before you arrive so that you can let yourselves in, as we find that guests like the privacy and flexibility that self check-in offers - it doesn't matter what time you arrive after 3pm, however late. Please re-scramble the numbers after retrieving and returning the keys, thank you. You will be provided with two sets of keys.
I am local so can be on-hand if there are any problems or if you need anything. I will text you the code to the keybox which is located next to the front door, so that you can let yourselves in any time after 3pm. I will let you know in advance if the house will be available earlier.
See our website by searching Henshaw House York.
If you're staying a few days or longer and don't want the inconvenience of going to a supermarket, why not pre-book a food delivery - all the major supermarkets deliver to the house, including Tesco, Sainsburys and Ocado. The address is 20 Huntington Mews YO31 8JB. If you usually have your shopping delivered, just change the delivery address (remember to change it back for your next shop once you're home again though!) There is a Waitrose, a couple of Tescos and a Sainsburys supermarket all within 5 minute's drive of the house and a large Spar (mini supermarket) just 1 minute's drive away, or 5 minutes walk.
Please make yourselves at home - most of all we want you to enjoy your stay. However we have a few rules;
Strictly no pets or smoking, thank you. Strictly no stag or hen groups, all-male groups of more than 2 adults or parties. All guests, (except children/teenagers accompanied by parents), must be aged 25 years and over. We don't hold a security deposit, but if it becomes clear that house rules have been broken or there is excessive damage, beyond fair wear and tear, or items missing, we reserve the right to cancel your booking or bill you for any damage and/or additional cleaning. I will also have to mark you as a non-recommendation to other hosts, meaning that you will not be able to book with some other properties.
Check in is 3pm and check out 10am unless agreed otherwise.
On departure; Please ensure all windows closed and locked (especially fire escape windows which are clearly marked upstairs), all used crockery etc put in dishwasher and switched on or washed, dried and put away. Please do not put wine glasses in the dishwasher. Please ensure ALL food is taken away or put in the bin and any glasses/tins/plastic are washed up and put into the recycling boxes in the back garden, thank you. Please return all keys to the key box and re-scramble the numbers. Please ensure front and back doors are locked. Please leave the house in a reasonably tidy and clean state and ensure that books, games, and house items are returned to their original place.
In the winter, please turn down the thermostat when you go out and/or on departure. We don't recommend leaving the heating on at night, as the house is modern, well-insulated and therefore very warm - the hot water tank is situated in a cupboard next to the master bedroom, meaning that you will hear some sounds from it during the night if you have the thermostat turned up. Please don't switch off heating and hot water at control panel in the kitchen.
Black wheelie bin or recycling boxes to be put outside the front of the house on Tuesday evenings for collection on Wednesday - see noticeboard in kitchen for details, as these alternate each week. Please use back gate access - the padlock key is hanging by the back door in the kitchen.
If you are staying on a Wednesday night, please return the bin or recycling boxes to the back garden.
If you have recently dyed hair, we have dark towels in the airing cupboard if you are worried about the dye staining the white towels.
We understand that accidents sometimes happen; if you could let us know of any breakages etc it helps us to replace or fix things for the next guests, thank you.
I love literature, travel and the arts. I have a young family who keep me busy along with running the holiday let. We usually self-cater for our holidays, and this inspired us to set up our own holiday let, as I feel that we can offer the things that travellers, and especially families, need. I have stayed in cottages which look lovely on the photographs, but aren't clean or not up to standard in reality; I pride myself on attention to detail and ensuring that our guests have a comfortable stay. We have the house and linen professionally cleaned after each guest and I also personally check everything over. We welcome feedback as we are continually striving to make our house as comfy and enjoyable as possible for our guests.
