Chris, the manager, went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. Before our arrival, he was in constant contact and helped arrange our equipment rental and transportation. During our stay, awesome breakfasts were provided, the fire in the living room was kept hot, and Chris personally provided convenient transport between the lodge and the ski slopes.
On a more personal level, Chris made us feel like family at Ebina. He could usually be found hanging out with guests in the common areas, playing games, sharing stories, and providing useful information about the region. He never hesitated to help arrange dinner reservations, and sometimes offered to personally bring us to his favorite restaurants. Having Chris at the lodge was like having a local buddy to help you settle in and feel at home in Annupuri.
The lodge was an awesome place to stay. A grand house that looked like it was super modern and very expensive when it was built. Although it might be a bit past its prime these days, a recent renovation helps it keep its chic.
There were a couple of issues: There was some problem with the pipes in our en-suite bathroom, creating a foul odor that enveloped our entire suite. Chris was quick to respond when we informed him, however, and moved us to an alternative room while the handyman came and repaired the offensive plumbing.
The other issue involved the hot spring bath house, which is located in the lodge and is awesome after a long day of skiing. Although the showers and the hot pool are fabulous, the sauna/steam room does not operate. This lack of service is apparently due to cost-saving measures on the part of the lodge owner. I do realize that, as Chris mentioned, the sauna room is not specifically advertised in the Airbnb description. However, it is easily visible in the accommodation photos, so we had all been looking forward to its use.
Despite the very small let downs, we had an awesome time using the hot spring pool and other lodge amenities during our amazing stay. Highly recommended, especially if Chris is managing. Will be back next winter!
