Get away from it all and unplug at our secluded, private, off-grid jungle eco-cabin in beautiful mountains of Las Marias. Enjoy fresh local coffee, 30 acres of jungle trail hikes, and nearby waterfalls by day, then relax with outdoor bubble baths, coquîs, candles, firepit & fireflies at night.
This charming, remote, off-grid eco-cabin is nestled into the jungle & forest-covered mountains of the Cordillera Central, and is perfect for "unplugging" from the stress of the 'real' world. Luxury glamping for the adventurous couple or outdoors-loving small group. The 5-star cabin crafted by master carpenter and artist Maravilla Mark, is off-grid, meaning there is no electricity; however, for night time lighting, besides the abundance of green Puerto Rican fireflies (locally called Cucubanos and the reason we call the cabin #casacucubano), there are plenty of florescent lanterns and candles, plus the large fire pit outside. In addition a charging station for devices is located on the grounds nearby if needed. Warm water is supplied for the shower, the kitchen sink and large outdoor tub from a propane set-up. All the water supplied to the cabin is good to drink and pumped from a fresh mountain spring nearby. Your private kitchen is well-equipped with a propane stove top, cookware and other amenities to cook light meals or brew locally grown coffee in the morning. We've a cooler with iced cold packs to keep your beer/chardonnay, etc. cool. A roofed kitchen and dining/sitting area are perfect for enjoying your food with a wonderful view out to jungle and trees beyond. The two enclosed rooms are a living room with folding walls that open to the deck and a bedroom with a queen-size bed; the custom-made futon in the living room can be made into a single or full-size bed, upon request. A lovely patio with a large outdoor warm water tub (great for bubble baths) may be enjoyed by the light of a nearby firepit. Guests can take advantage of the many books in the living room and the large comfortable hammock on the deck. Stairs lead up to a concrete rooftop that's great for private sunbathing, stargazing and makes a good yoga deck.

The cabin is located on over 30 acres of forest, with a gatehouse that can be used to recharge devices if needed. Guests are encouraged to explore the various trails on the grounds and the expansive veggie and flower garden. Depending on the season, a variety of fruits and veggies are available to be harvested.
The cabin is a completely secluded/private area but we manage the property for the owners who along with us, live on the grounds nearby. Most of the time we're generally available on premise if something is needed, if you'd like a guide to show you some of the highlights of the property, or if just want some social time. It is important to note that there are friendly, well-behaved dogs that live on this property.
Our listing is for the adventurous. If you're a typical tourist, San Juan and its hotels have a lot to offer. However, if you want something unique, this is it. Rural Puerto Rico, it can be both beautiful and challenging. The mountain roads are serpentine and narrow and can take some adjusting to, they get a little rough at times (while some guests will feel more comfortable in a jeep or 4-wheel drive, most guests do fine with a standard rental car as long as the final mile is driven slowly). Those prone to car sickness will want to pack their medication. Everyone else, pack a go-pro. If there's a tailgater on your back, just pull to the side when you've a chance and let them by. When alotting travel-time think twice as long as it should be and definitely get here well before sunset. Small anole lizards are abundant as well as the tiny coqui frogs whose song fill the night time air; they're also the secret as to why there are so few mosquitoes here as compared to the rest of the island so we don't mind when they occasionally find themselves in places one doesn't expect. Off-grid means no air-conditioning but to be honest with the cool mountain air and nights you'll be wondering where you put your sweater rather than where the ac is. (Note: Pack a light jacket/hoodie/sweatshirt). It also means our "hot tub" does not have jets or scalding hot water, simply a warm bath to be enjoyed with or without bubbles set in a beautiful jungle scene.
**Yoga packages: $25/pp or $40 per couple, per hour and a half private, personalized class. Power Yoga classes by a Certified Yoga Teacher are available on your private jungle roof deck in the mornings, afternoons/sunsets, and candlelit nighttime Yin Yoga sessions are available after dark. Inquire for more information and discount packages.
**Birding info: Our area is home to a vast array of tropical birds, many of them endangered, and is a great bird watching destination. Birds spotted on our property include the Bananaquit, Puerto Rican Tody (mediopeso), PR Emerald Hummingbird, Green Mango Hummingbird, PR Lizard Cuckoo (bobo), Red-tailed Hawk, PR screech Owl, Bullfinches, Stripe-headed Tanager, Cattle Egret, Shiny Cowbird, PR Flycatcher, Pin tail Wydah, Puerto Rican Woodpecker, Smooth-billed Ani, American Kestrel, Blue Heron, Green Heron, Euphonia, PR Peewee, Red-legged Thrush, PR Tanager, Yellow-shouldered Blackbird, Yellow-Faced Grassquit, and Black-Rumped Waxbill, just to name a few. The only place in the world to see the Elfin Woods Warbler is just a half hour away from our location in the Maricao State Forest.
• Check-in time is between 1PM and 5:30pm. While our check in time can be a little flexible, we cannot schedule check-ins after 5:30pm
• If you are flying in to Puerto Rico we highly recommend that you do not book the cabin for your first night on the Island. If something goes unexpectedly and you are delayed at the airport or rental car agency, we may not be able check you in at night. We recommend you consider spending your 1st night in the city or Isabela/Aguadilla/Rincon/Areciebo.
• In the event of an unavoidable late check in, check-ins after 7pm will incur a $60 late charge.
• We enjoy the mountains for their peace and serenity; please help keep it that way with refraining from loud music and disorderly behavior.
• Hike at your own risk.
• Respect nature. No littering.
• No smoking indoors, please dispose of butts properly.
• Be on time for check-in. Better early than late.
• Please print out the directions, and follow the directions given using GPS only as a back up. GPS is wonky on the island and locally stands for "God please stop". Generally the only people who get lost coming to our place are those who rely on GPS.
• We advise trip insurance as we cannot issue refunds due to inclement weather or travel issues.
• 7% Tax for The Puerto Rico Tourism Company already included in Fees.

Hi, we're Meagan and Jim and we live here in the mountains of Las Marias, Puerto Rico. We're adventurous, laid-back, open-minded and always looking to share fun times with new people. Meagan is a certified yoga teacher, dancer, musician/pianist, performance artist, gamer nerd - turned gardener and tree whisperer - who hunts perfect sunsets, rainbows & unicorns. Jim's a Jack-of-all-trades, hobbyist photographer & avid chess player and who cooks and mixes drinks superbly. We're both from Philly and are happy to have escaped the cold to live here in paradise. We are managing the eco-cabin for the former owners of Maravilla Mountain BNB until March 2018. We're enthusiastic about sharing the beauty of this place and our knowledge of Western PR.
