We stayed at Site #3. Although there was only 2 of us, this space could have fit a big group of people. There were tall trees in back of us that provided shade and a huge valley with wild flowers in front of us. There were 2 picnic tables, a fire pit, and a tripod that had a grill you could lower or higher over the fire. A few of the campsites are at the entrance of the ranch. This was convenient for navigating upon entrance and a quick exit if it was needed, however, this does place you close to the road which we didn’t have an issue with since there was hardly any cars passing by. We were about 40 feet away from other campers and were not disturbed one bit. However, I would inquire if there will be big groups of campers on the site if you are going to book since loud noises could be heard where we were. Rod was very cool and came to greet us when we were unpacking our stuff. He rides dirt bikes and we enjoyed watching his group take off and leave the ranch. His office is a small walk away along with the porta potty. We ended up walking to the road and finding a small trail leading to the woods about a mile up. This was really nice and we found some big boulders to climb on. It is easy to get lost in this area so just be mindful of where you entered at. If you don’t mind driving a couple of miles, there are plenty of spots where you can go down to the creek or even fish, as we saw people doing. This area is not overcrowded and we didn’t encounter a large amount of cars on the road. The only downside was the swarm of wasps (or I think that’s what they were) that were hanging out around our picnic table. It was the worst in the morning and swarmed around our water jug and food. We did not get stung but they were a bother. Bring plenty of bug repellant and an insect candle (we forgot to bring one). This area is great for dogs and we didn’t have an issue bringing ours. Rod has an older lab mix who is super friendly and was a great playmate for my younger dog. He is harmless and might come over to say hi, he seems to just be curious of other dogs and isn’t destructive or begging for food.

We had a wonderful stay in Rod's Ranch ! The place is absolutely stunning and charming. The nature is beautiful, rod's ranch is really nice and quite. It is so much nicer than all the other campgrounds we seen on the road. We also had a lot of place for us and almost felt like we were alone in Rod's Ranch ! We had a fireplace and firewood available and we used it to cook burgers, it was awesome under the stars ! Rod is super welcoming and nice too. He was always available when we had questions or needs. And it was nice to get advices from someone that knows well the area. If you're looking at a unique place close to nature and quite, I definitely recommend you this ranch.

The first white people in this immediate area were missionaries. We’ve been told the Indians that occupied this land had presented leather maps to the settlers, informing them of game trails, bears, and fishing. Silver Fork Ranch was a working cattle ranch and summer home. Looking at maps you can find Silver Fork Ranch named as Mahon Camp, the old time cowboy camp. You will see the rustic old cattle loading ramp, cedar corrals, and barn. Ranchers still bring cattle to this area of the High Sierras for summer range grazing. You’ll hear the far off sound of cow bells long before you see the cows come home.
