In this romantic, Gaudi-inspired home, a private, exterior staircase leads to the second floor, on which there are two guest rooms. This listing is for the Writing Room, which has a queen-sized bed (and a terrific mattress); it shares a bathroom with the other guest room. If you are a party of four, you could rent both upstairs rooms—the Writing Room and the Flower Room—and have the entire upstairs to yourselves.

Also on the second floor is a lovely sun-drenched study, perfect for painters and writers. Enjoy the abundant light and trees; the luxuriant gardens; the patio; the terrace, with its expansive view; and the romantic and tranquil interior. Coffee will be available in the mornings, downstairs, in the kitchen.
Note: There is purified, filtered water throughout the house.
I’ll give you a key to the first floor (which is where I live) should you want to use the kitchen, or the laundry and ironing facilities. I’m often around during the day and will be happy to give you whatever information I can to help you best enjoy your experience in San Miguel.
No smoking and no pets, please.

I began my adult life as a lawyer (a job from which I am still recovering!), but I came to my senses early in my career and turned to writing fantasy novels for children. I lived in Chicago most of my life—in the University of Chicago community of Hyde Park—but three years ago, I moved to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. Here, I built myself a magical house, the kind of house a reader might find in a fantastical novel, a house with oversized chairs and wrought-iron roses and a bridge and a brook in the garden. This house reflects the spirit of my novels, this house reflects the spirit of San Miguel. I love living and writing here, surrounded by my dogs and my books and my garden and my wonderful neighbors.
