A serene valley 1 hour SE of Melbourne in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges. Wake up to kookaburras, kangaroos, and gorgeous rescued horses, on our 15-acre hobby farm. Take romantic walks on our country road, go solo and explore adjoining flora & fauna reserve, birdwatch, write your book, visit wineries or meditate.
The house is inviting and comfortable inside and the guest bedroom is quintessentially Aussie with aboriginal artwork, an antique wardrobe, chest of drawers and en suite. Bruce is keen on gardening and woodworking so elements of his work are throughout as well as photographs and artwork I have collected.
Guest can access the lounge room, kitchen and dining room, back deck and property where the horses are not- for safety reason.
We are pretty independent although do like to meet people and have good conversation. TV is not on often although we do like a good movie and have some programs we watch regularly so you're welcome to join us. We have a glass a wine or two a few times a week and like to spend most of our time outdoors with the horses or working on the property. Our collective knowledge about the area enables us to give you great suggestions on things to do/see and we are happy to share information on the local wildlife, birds, etc.
You really have to like animals because we have 3 dogs, 2 very social cats and 6 horses who are well loved. The dogs play outside in our very large back yard during the day and brought inside at night in their own little comfy room. The cats love to be around people so you're likely to find one in your lap at some point. The horses all have unique personalities and it is best that if you want to interact with them, it must be with one of us accompanying you.
Also, we are 10ks from town so you will need your own transportation. NOTE: We will not accept guests who are using airbnb to negotiate cash deals outside of airbnb. The system is protection for everyone. Best for you to look elsewhere if you are wanting to work in the area on your working holiday visa and looking for cheap accomodation.
Be respectful and considerate, no smoking, no excessive drinking, we can only accommodate a single person or a couple/ 2 people max as there is only one guest room available and if you want to invite guests over you have to run it by us. We have a lot of animals as we're a hobby farm and love animals- horses, dogs, cats and wildlife. It is suitable for anyone who is cool with having our cats and dogs wandering around the house as they are part of our family.
I'm a Freelance writer/journalist/photographer with a passion for social enterprise and animal advocacy, gourmet vegan cooking and socially engaged Buddhism. I love to read, run, hike, travel and give to organisations that help wild and domestic horses- especially the old ones. Coffee, chocolate and wine are my other passions- to be shared with good friends over great conversations. My preference is to have a fair bit of solitude as well, especially when I travel so you can expect a quiet guest, likely to be out for a run and/or buried in a book or writing. The other co-owner of the house- a beautiful little farm named Rivendell on Wurrundjeri country, and I have horses, cats and dogs as well as love the kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and parrots. Helpers from around the world love it as much as we do.
