Looking for a quiet, clean, and comfortable place to lay your head in the city of Rochester? You have just found the perfect place. I offer a furnished office with a single bed in a 3-bedroom house. When the trundle bed is extended the space is tight, but the arrangement is great for a parent and a child. Two bicycles are available with lights and helmets for casual rides exploring the city on a sunny day. Large discounts for weekly and monthly stays!
The house was built around 1920 and has original gumwood trim and leaded windows. In the recently renovated kitchen you can store, cool, or heat up your food and eat at the breakfast nook or in the dining room. The bedrooms are upstairs and this room has a comfortable single bed wth a trundle bed underneath. So if there are two people in your party and you would each like your own bed this is it. With the bed out it is a little tight, but during the day it can be quickly stored and then you have a decent amount of space. There is plenty of space to put away your things in the closet or the dresser. In the summer, I install a window air conditioner. This room also works well for your two children if you are taking my guest room (which is my other listing). So even if the calendar says that the room is not available please check with me because I may be able to juggle things around.
There is a big shared bathroom on the same floor as the bedrooms. It has a bathtub and a shower. There is also a half bathroom downstairs.
In the front of the house, there is a nice porch that can be used for resting or dining and watching the comings and goings. You will find a quiet back yard with vegetable beds and a picnic table. If you come in the Summer or Fall, some mulberries, raspberries, tomatoes, or pears may just be ripe and ready for your picking. For the active visitor I do have a couple bicycles (hand me downs) to tour the city, use at your own risk.
I generally make sure that the driveway is available for my guests and there is also parking available on the street in front of the house. Pets are negotiable. If you want to use public transportation, bus stations in all directions are just around the corner.
Guests can use the kitchen for storage and warming up food and drink. You may eat at the kitchen table or in the dining room and relax in the living room. The front porch and the back yard are great for having dinner or relaxing. On cool evenings I may make a fire in the fireplace. The fireplace may only be operated by the owner.
For the adventurous visitor I do have a couple of hand me down bicycles that will allow you to get around town and visit the sites. Use at your own risk.
I like to meet people staying at my house and will provide you information about the house, the neighborhood, and Rochester as you need and request. In general I am busy with my own projects and tasks and like to fade into the background when you have what you need. But please let me know if I can help or things are not quite as you expected.
1) Take off outside shoes and store on the carpet near the back entrance or in the coat closet while inside.
2) Communicate about expected arrival and departure times.
3) Let me know about anything that is not up to your expectations. I can probably fix it or at least make it better.
4) Feel free to store food in the refrigerator.
5) Feel free to use dishes, mugs, silverware, etc., but do not remove them from the kitchen / dining area.
6) Take care of everything as if it was your own, and clean up.
7) The fireplace must only be operated by the owner.
8) No visitors unless you got explicit permission by the owner.
9) Long term guests (over 1 week) are responsible for keeping their room clean, wash the bedding, and keep the bathroom clean.
10) Parking in the driveway for loading/unloading and short stops are no problem. Overnight parking in the driveway needs to be negotiated as the driveway is only one car wide. Parking on the street in front of the house or nearby is generally easily available.
Cancel up to 5 days before your trip and get a full refund. Cancel within 5 days of your trip and the first night is non-refundable, but 50% of the cost for the remaining nights will be refunded.

I am a Swiss engineer who came to this country in 1984 to continue my studies. In 1991 I joined Xerox and have been working in R&D ever since. My main hobbies are skiing and boarding in the winter time and hang gliding and biking in the summer. I also love hiking in the Finger Lakes area and visiting vineries for a little tasting. The week of the Rochester International Jazz Festival is a great time to take off work, enjoy the wonderful music, and try to see as many bands as possible.
My favorite engineer joke: how do you know you met an extravert engineer? He looks at YOUR shoes!
I speak English and German fluently, enjoy practicing my French and Spanish, and with hands and feet may be able to communicate in Italian. Needless to say I enjoy hosting people from all corners of the world.
I retired in March of 2016, so now I am traveling a bit more exploring other Airbnb homes. What fun!
