Welcome to my little jungle bungalow in Playa Samara. This is humble Costa Rican style house is spacious, clean and functional! It's in a quiet neighborhood 5 minutes walk to the beach and hiking trails, and 15 minutes walk to the center of town.
My home is located in a cute neighborhood within 15 minutes walking distance of 3 unique beaches. The house has three bedrooms. Your bedroom (with key lock) is equipped with a full/double sized bed, shelving for clothing etc., and a nightstand with drawer and ceiling fan. House has Wifi Access. There is a large living room with a sofa and two comfy chairs. The dining room area has a table and chairs for comfortable eating. The kitchen, though not gourmet, has all the basics! It has a full sized refrigerator and freezer, three gas burners, toaster, blender, large Tico-style sink and is equipped with plates, utensils, pots/pans and cooking implements. You're welcome to buy food and cook etc. There is a small patio in the front garden for sitting and sipping coffee, and a secure parking space inside the gate. The bathroom has a shower and toilet with a sink and mirror outside. The business portion of the bathroom is very private! There is a washing machine for laundry. The back garden has clotheslines to hang dry your laundry.
My home is your home! Feel free to come and go as you please. Enjoy full use of the kitchen, living room and any other common areas inside and outside the house. I only ask that you respect the privacy of my bedroom and the other guest bedroom.
This is open for you to decide! I'm happy to spend time with you and show you around town or leave you in peace. Just let me know!
During the week I typically work from home in the mornings, and at my office in town in the afternoons. I also teach a class at a local university on Saturday Mornings. You will have plenty of alone time in the house if that's your vibe.
The other roommate is a Pre-School teacher at a local school here in Samara - she typically works from 8AM to 3PM and has a private tutoring session with a 5 year old girl here at the house for 2 hours twice a week in the afternoons.
Occasionally, I teach private English classes at home, but it's very casual and won't interfere with your relaxation.
The shower does not have hot water (typical in coastal areas).
Samara tends to be quite warm, but the room has a ceiling fan directly above the bed to keep you as cool as possible.
I usually have bikes ready and snorkels available for guests to use! Just ask!(Our dirt roads are rough on bikes, and I say "usually" in case there is a casualty in the fleet and a bike needs repair.)
I am happy to help you with transportation from either airport to Playa Samara and with transportation to any other locations in Costa Rica or Central America. Typical options include Public Bus (cheapest), Daily Shuttles (Affordable and Comfortable), and Private Shuttles (A bit pricier and Comfortable).
I can also assist you in booking tours, surf lessons etc. Local options include: surf lessons, stand up paddleboard, ocean kayaking, river kayaking, snorkeling, ziplining, nature hike, quad rentals and quad tours, boat tours with sportfishing and dolphin watching, turtle tours (seasonal), and day or overnight trips to countless other beautiful locations in Costa Rica.
There are also a number of other events services in town I can match you up with including: yoga, zumba, kickboxing, personal training, latin dance lessons, spanish classes, cooking classes, poker night, open mic night, karoake, live music, reggae night, salsa night, writers group and more!
Samara has an Natural Center with and organic market, a vegan restaurant, and most recently a pub with 10+ Costa Rican Microbrews on tap!
I'm very easy going. Please respect me, the other roommate, the house and neighborhood.

Only pre-approved guests may enter the house.
I'm open to pets, but they too must be pre-approved.
Please smoke outside. I'm happy to provide you with an ashtray for butts!
Please clean up after yourself in the kitchen, bathroom etc.
Please rinse sandy feet with the hosepipe before entering the house if you've just come from the beach.
Organic waste goes into a bucket and then outside in the compost area.
Glass, plastic and aluminum can be separated for recycling.
Costa Rican Bathroom Rule: Please put paper, feminine products etc. in the trash, NOT in the toilet.
I'm Bill! I'm a native of Tucson, Arizona in the United States. I've lived the last 2 of my 30 years in Playa Samara, Costa Rica and I wake up everyday loving life. I'm a laid back and easy going guy. I love to read, watch movies, go to the beach, exercise and spend time with family and friends. My mother is a chef and my parents run a cooking school, so naturally I love to cook and eat yummy food. I only need the essentials to be happy: humor and a purpose in life. I'm a social person, and I like to spend time with fun, friendly and easy going people, but I enjoy downtime too and am respectful of introverted spirits as well.
I love education! I have degrees in Hospitality Management from Pima Community College and Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ and I'm currently studying for my Masters in International Education through Massachusett's Framingham State University here in Costa Rica.
I work as an English teacher at the public university about an hour away from Samara, and as an administrator at the local TEFL certification school. I also do freelance graphic design for clients in the U.S., and occasionally teach private English classes.
A typical weekend for me is snorkeling with friends, having some beers on the beach, gardening or working around the house, and enjoying the nightlife here in Samara.
