Magali, Sheila, and Grandmother offer a welcoming and sacred respite! My son and I spent a peaceful night in the teepee warmed by the fire and embraced by the earth and beautiful woodlands. A short walk through their beautiful land took us through the woods to the banks of the Hudson River. The opportunity to learn about the lives of others is one of the main reasons why I choose Airbnb when I travel. Our time at Spirit Bear Lodge allowed my son and me to learn about Cherokee and Mohawk history and culture and to receive the blessings of this family's kindness and hospitality. Magali and Sheila fed us well, too! I will be back!

Magali and Sheila's teepee is a magical place. My wife and I spent our honeymoon there and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful way to spend it. Magali welcome us with open arms (literally) from the moment he met us. He already had the fire in the teepee ready and was preparing dinner when we arrived. We stayed for two nights. The first night he cooked a pasta dish in garlic and olive oil with roasted chicken. He prepared salad as an appetizer and berries with homemade whipped cream for desert. The second night, we enjoyed a very juicy tenderloin steak cooked to perfection with roasted potatoes and carrots. By far, the best potatoes I've ever had. Sheila made us breakfast each morning we were there. She specializes in sugar free and gluten free pastries that you would never know are sugar free. She is a great baker and her pancakes and so fluffy. Ask for her baked oatmeal if you ever want a good hearty breakfast to prepare you for a big day. They both entertained us with funny stories and gave us some great newlywed advice. They really enriched our lives through our conversations with them. Magali serenaded us with songs in his language around the fire and gave us everything we needed to be safe and comfortable. This has been the most amazing experience of my and my wife's young lives. You won't regret coming here for a real escape into the wilderness.

If you like something out of the ordinary, you'll love Magali's place. We opted to sleep on the ground without the air mattress. Magali provided a fireplace in the tipi so we stayed warm until we went to sleep. The fire eventually burned out,but my son and I were snug in our sleeping bags with a buffalo skin over each bag which kept us plenty warm. The absolute quiet in the forest (we were about 20 yards from the main house) at night was itself an experience for city dwellers like us. Sheila, the lady of the house, made delicious blueberry pancakes for us for breakfast. Our visit was a real treat.

I had a deeply spiritual time at the Spirit Bear Lodge tipi. Magali and Sheila were excellent hosts -- hospitable, compassionate, kind and funny. I enjoyed getting to know them and their family. The tipi and land were very sacred. This was a spiritual retreat for me beyond a typical AIRBNB experience and I'm very glad I came. Magali poured a sweat lodge for me and it was healing and powerful. All my relations!

He was terrific. Very accommodating and flexible. He provided some amenities we weren't expecting (sleeping bags already set up, additional fire wood, an evening snack).

Coming to the Spirit Bear Lodge is one of the most memorable and unique airbnb experiences I've had so far and I use airbnb all the time. Magali, Sheila and Grandma took care of me and my boyfriend from the moment we checked-in and hugged us goodbye on the way out. The reviews are amazing because this place truly is special. We came to the adirondacks to get some fresh air and do some day hikes but what we got out of it was so much more thanks to Magali and his family. The delicious food Chef Magali served us was expertly made, from organic high quality ingredients, and cooked with love. The stories told at the table were so entertaining and truly brings people together. There was another couple staying at the lodge and when we all came to the table for meals, it truly felt like a meal with family and friends, instead of strangers. Magali is a real character and made us all laugh. We looked forward to the conversations and if you're lucky, he will play his traditional instruments and sing for you! The tipi was beautiful! It was adorned with hand-painted horses on the walls and a crackling fire in the middle of it. Magali and his family made sure the fire was started even before we got home from our day hikes. My boyfriend and I don't really go camping so Magali taught us how to keep the fire burning through the night and kindly checked in on us around midnight to make sure our fire was still going. He let us borrow sleeping bags to make sure we were warm and comfortable during the cold nights. We were also offered to come sleep inside the lodge if it got too cold but we were determined to spend the night outside in the tipi. We're very glad we did. I'm really looking forward to coming back to try the sweat lodge and have more of that great food! So sad I didn't get to taste Sheila's muffins!!!

We are a traditional Native American couple, we have a teepee and sweat lodge on the premises and can offer sweat lodge for an additional donation. Magali went to culinary school and is a chef. Sheila has worked in Social Services for over 25 years, is a counselor and life coach. Our philosophy is tolerance, compassion and insight in the way of the Creator!
