I contacted the host three days before we were to arrive, she stated she would be home all day and to give her a 30 min lead time. I sent her a message about 40 min before we were to arrive. About 20 min later she replied that she forgot she had a thing for her son and she would try and be back around 5pm, this was about 4:30pm. We had an event we needed to be at, and wouldn't be done until very late. We wanted to check in and get ready. So, at this point we are feeling very awkward and uncomfortable about staying in a strangers house. We called airbnb and explained our problem, in the mean time we went straight to our event. We had to get ready in our car in the parking lot. We get a text from the host at 5:20pm saying she is home and we can come and check in. Well, we were already at our event and couldn't talk on
the phone. As a host, if she said she was going to be home all day and then forgot she had something to do, shouldn't it be her responsibility to let her guest know if her plans change? We planned our whole day around her saying "no worries, I'll be home all day". We ended up staying somewhere else. I asked her for a refund, she refused. Airbnb was great and very accommodating and they issued me a full refund!
