This private sunny basement suite is located steps from Danforth restaurants, shops, parks, trails and Broadview Station. Rest yourself in soft linens, bespoke decor, and all the comforts of home in my century brick house. There is no parking provided, but we're ideal for the pedestrian experience, with transit located around the corner and a lit public parking lot a 5-minute walk away.
The cozy, air conditioned apartment is designed with modern efficiency in mind, with touches of handcrafted art and clever upcycling. It's perfect for a single or an intimate couple. WiFi is available (of course!), with digital-antenna 46" TV (with hdmi input), DVD player (and a small selection of titles), a desk to deal with the business part of your trip, a table for two and a kitchen equipped with a gas stovetop, an electric toaster oven, coffee maker (with a little coffee provided), kettle (with a few tea bags provided), a mini fridge (with a few necessities) and an iron with small ironing board. The bed is lower than some with a very thick high quality natural fibre firm futon perched on a pine frame, softened with a featherbed topper (please let me know if you are allergic to feathers and I'll remove the topper for your stay). While it's not bouncy like a spring mattress it's a healthier choice and certainly soft and comfortable. I built the apartment to be consistent with my values on healthy living choices, respecting the environment, reusing, repurposing and recycling materials. Sorry, no microwave or oven.
The apartment is accessed by the side entrance, is well lit and is locked and unlocked by an electronic key pad. There are five steps from the landing to the apartment foyer and separate, lockable front door.
While I generally keep to myself, I work from home and live upstairs so I'm available if you have any questions or needs. I'm available by cel phone, email or text to help. There's information, maps, passwords, etc left for you in a printed Book of Helpful Things that will get you oriented to the beautiful neighborhood.
There are three of us who live above the suite. We live creative and varied lives. As professional perfoming musicians we sing, and play acoustic guitar, and keyboard piano. If we're working on a show we may rehearse at home, so you may sometimes hear us. The good news is we're critically acclaimed and we're considerate of the "noise" we make (and the reasonable hours we make it) so you're unlikely to hear us but we...well...you might. On the weekends Yawd, also a chef, leaves for work early in the morning so you might hear his footsteps as he leaves for his brunch shift.
Our constant companion is a rescued 9 year old cocker spaniel/poodle (hypoallergenic) dog named Bob Marley and while he's super friendly and a total cream puff, he does have a tendency to bark when he sees strangers. I also have a teenage son, but he doesn't usually bark at all.
Our son - at 6'3" tall - wants you to know that the ceiling height is 6'9" so if you're super tall that will matter to you. It may also matter to you that the space is bright but there's a curtain to keep the sunrise at bay, and for privacy from our back garden.
I ask people to treat my home and my neighbors with respect. I like a clean space so shoes and boots off inside (especially in wet weather!), please keep tidy and tend to spills and crumbs immediately. No smoking, please. For my security and yours absolutely there are no unregistered overnight guests. Finally, it's a lovely street and my kind and friendly neighbors deserve peaceful consideration, so please keep the Broadway tunes to a decent volume.
Hello! I'm a performing singer songwriter with a lifetime of recording and playing music behind and in front of me. I work hard to make our home peaceful; I enjoy the mom 'n pop businesses in my neighborhood; I believe in taking care with people, animals, and nature and being kind to all. I love a good laugh with my teenage son and my partner Yawd, and together with our goofy dog and shy cat we live a life filled with making music, building props for film, cooking delicious food, and creatively making our way in the world.
