Simon went to great lengths to research activities going on in the local area during our stay based on our group and the types of excursion we were looking for, and he didn't let us down.
Despite our late arrival time (10pm turned 11.30pm!), Simon met us at the property with a range of food and drinks for the hungry troops. His directions were very helpful and allowed us to reach the farmhouse without much complication, even in such a peaceful and remote part of South-Western France.
Simon took the time to show us around the property and went into detail about the various events and markets in the local area during our stay, as well as the local Jazz Festival and even reserved us tickets to the village fête for the Saturday night.
Each one of Simon's recommendations were spot on. The local markets were exactly what we were looking for, local produce and a true rural French feel, the Jazz Festival was great fun, whilst the village fête was the cherry on the cake. With around 200 people from the local village, this evening dinner & drinks celebration was an insight into the French culture of the annual village get together and we were welcomed with open arms - an experience not to be missed if your dates permit.
The house itself was not done justice by Simon's photos nor description. The bedrooms seemed to go on and on, with plenty of beds and bathrooms to accommodate all 9 of us and more. Each room told a different story of Simon's travels around the world with an amazing collection of maps, books and photos, which could have occupied us for many more weeks.
The kitchen had every piece of crockery and cutlery you need with a large dining table, whilst outside there's a great covered dining area we used lunch and dinner each day, including a coal BBQ.
The pool and grounds really aren't done justice by Simon's photos. The pool catches the sun from around 11am and is a great size, with space to roll out the loungers alongside, and in the late afternoon there is plenty of room on the lawn through the trees to lie out and read your book.
The local area is everything we were looking for. A truly secluded farmhouse surrounded by country lanes and hamlets. The evenings provided us with clear, starry skies with no noise from neighbours in the distance.
With Simon's bikes and on foot we were able to explore the area close by, predominantly farmland but with amenities such as village shops and bakeries within 20-30 minutes walk. With a car we were able to venture further afield to local towns and explore rural France, and even went on an amazing road trip to the Pyrenees and into Spain one day - truly spectacular!
In short, we couldn't recommend Simon as a host or his fantastic property any more for people looking for a truly secluded French escape!
