Tree-covered and largely undeveloped, Echo Island offers rare privacy. Sunrise and sunset views in an area largely zoned as Crown Land. Few neighbours, little boat traffic, located on the farthest reaches of 10 km. long lake. Pristine water! 275' deep - rocky bottom, home of loons, small mouth bass and trout. Canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing. Diverse landscape surrounding the island includes two waterfalls in the area and a wolf sanctuary in nearby world-renowned Algonquin Park (canoe access from the lake to the provincial park) Close to Deerhurst Resort, 4-star dining, excellent provisions in nearby village of Dorset, bakeries, LCBO, ice-cream parlours, restaurants!
Haliburton County’s largest lake is Kawagama, with over 83 km. (52 miles) of shoreline, and no towns or settlements on its shores. The main area of the lake has only eight inhabited islands.
Booking through direct communication with owner. Kawagama Lake has two public boat landing access points with free parking (both nearby) and two marinas offering motor boat rentals. 230 km drive from Toronto.
Guests may use my parking space at the Mountain Trout House marina. I have a single spot. Additional cars can be parked at the free, public boat launch, or pay additional marina parking fee. Call Mountain Trout House for current rates.
Boat taxi may be possible from the marina, or from private taxi run by J. Forbeck. Call well ahead to book!
No need to bring kitchen ware -- utensils, etc.
Absolutely no additional guests beyond number agreed upon (guests also may not host events on the island, inviting additional guests, unless specifically negotiated with host).
No illegal drugs
Bonfires must be lit only in the designated fire pit to avoid forest fires.
Absolutely no smoking except at fire pit.
Candles and indoor stove and wood stove must never be left unattended.
Do not burn driftwood.
Premises must be left as clean as found. If the property is not left as clean as found, an additional fee of $100 will be charged in addition to the regular cleaning fee (which covers the cost of digging out the outhouse, and a cleaning person to do a more thorough cleaning between guests).
Host's books and other personal belongings may not be removed from the island.
Lost and damaged items must be replaced/paid for.
