Glamping for the independent. Shepherds hut with kingsize sofa bed, wood burner, kitchen area, table etc., In secluded valley on exmoor. Freedom to roam in woods and fields on farm. Excellent walking, mountain biking, bird watching etc., Off grid
The shepherds hut location is in a secluded valley next to a stream.
We will transport you and your bags down to the hut ( approx 1/4 mile, 10 min walk from house) and will bring you back on day of departure. The shepherds hut is clean, comfortably furnished, and has sleeping for two with small kitchen facilities. It has a wood burner for heating or cooking purposes if needed. There is also a fire-pit for cooking with fuel. (extra fuel can be collected from our woods) and a gas ring for those who don't want to bother with camp fires. There is no electricity and light is by oil lamp, gas, or candle. Spring water is available at standpipe. There are composting toilet facilities and an outdoor hot shower. The hut will be stocked with the basics e.g. tea / coffee and you will be able to buy eggs, milk, etc from us, but you will need to bring other food for cooking over the campfire with you. There is a small fridge. You may require wellies or boots, head torch, rucksack. There is no phone signal at the hut but Vodafone is available if you walk back up to the house. The walk to and from the hut requires a basic level of fitness.
Although secluded, the area is criss-crossed by footpaths (that eventually lead to pubs) and bridleways. There is parking for vehicles at our farm-house. Mountain bikes can be taken down to the site and there are well known cycle tracks accessed from the farm. Well behaved dogs are free but guests MUST clean up after them without fail.
Guests will be generally left to look after themselves although we are willing to help in any way. The idea is that it should be a quiet, private retreat where you will not be disturbed.
The accommodation and surrounding area is basically for walkers, mountain bikers, bird watchers, star gazers, poets, authors and independent people who appreciate the countryside. There are plenty of places to build a den or dam the stream and space for pursuits such as archery and other quiet recreations.
No smoking in shepherds hut.
No dogs on bed in shepherds hut.
