Our house in France includes a collection of farm buildings beautifully set out around a large grassy space, which the house looks out on to. It is surrounded by fields and unspoilt countryside, about half a mile from the village and is extremely peaceful. The house has been in my family for over 30 years and we have gradually modernised and improved it. Some parts of the house are still a little scruffy, and the price reflects this. Furniture is a mixture of Ikea and brocante finds. There is a modern kitchen with unique mosaic tiling and IKEA fitted units, electric hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge freezer. The 'salon' has a dining table and comfortable old sofas around a wonderful fireplace with a woodburner. On the same floor are a double bedroom with kingsize bed, and a twin room, and a shower room (there is no bath in the house at all). The attic has been converted into a double bedroom and a further bedroom with two singles and a small double. There is also a shower room on this floor, which has exposed beams and velux roof lights.
There is a high chair and travel cot in the house. There is no wifi.
You will have full and exclusive access to the entire property and grounds. Please note that we are currently unable to accept bookings starting or finishing on Saturdays.
We live in the UK and will not be able to meet guests personally. We will ensure that our local concierge is around to provide any help that may be needed. He is an English man who lives nearby and maintains the house, pool and garden in our absence.
The property is accessed by external stone steps, and the main living space is on one floor. The swimming pool is tucked away behind the old barn and is also accessed by some rather narrow steps. There is a security cover on the pool which must be replaced when the pool is not in use. Some pool furniture is provided but we do request that cushions and parasols are put away if there is threat of rain or strong winds. Bedding, sheets and bathroom towels are provided but please bring your own towels for the swimming pool. There is no wifi reception at the house. There is French and English television. Please also note that the house and grounds are charming, with a really special feel, but the accommodation is certainly not finished or furnished to hotel standard. We are gradually improving the house every year, but it is still rather rickety in places and some of the rooms are substantially unchanged from the time my parents bought the house in the 1980's. We hope that, like us, you will like the fact that it is 'not too done up' (as one visitor put it).
Please do not smoke in the house. Please lock doors and shutters when leaving the house. No outside fires. Fires in the woodburner must be attended at all times. Please close velux windows if it rains. Please put parasols down in rain or wind and bring in any cushions.
I am a Psychology teacher and jeweller and live in a rather chaotic but creative household with my artist husband and two teenage children and dog. I love all kinds of creative enterprise including art, textiles, gardening, sewing, etc. I love exploring new places and staying in unusual or individual houses/hotels/b and b's .
