Decided to go to Scandinavia on a whim. Decided on Oslo because it is the biggest city in Norway. Then decided on the Grunnerlokka district because of the nice photos of the apartment on AirBnB. This was our first AirBnB experience and we were going to stay for 2 full months. We couldn't have been more happy with the location within the city and the apartment itself.
Arriving in Norway was like a fairytale and when we got to the apartment we were greeted by “Liv,” a real live Norwegian princess who showed us around her grandparents lovely apartment. It all felt like a dream. Very homey, comfortable, and nicely decorated with bits of Norway. It even had 2 of those super cool looking rounded Scandinavian fireplaces that gave the apartment so much character. The apartment was very clean and well stocked with linens, kitchen utensils, and a coveted washer/dryer. It is a very large and comfortable apartment for 2 people and handled 4 extra people as guests for a couple nights just fine. The apartment was beautiful and so was the neighborhood. We weren't lacking for anything and felt very at home immediately.
Anyone considering the Grunnerlokka area should realize it's a very trendy and “happening” part of town and can get a little noisy some nights. Think beautiful streets cafes, restaurants, shopping, small parks, river paths, bars, etc. In other words, it's a nice place to be so there are a lot of people around. We were ok with the street activity 3 floors below us because we enjoy the urban atmosphere. However, we did have ear plugs available as needed for some of the more celebratory nights (we were there for the Euro Cup games).
We absolutely loved it here and would highly recommend it to anyone for its great comfort, great location and sweet hospitality of our Norwegian host. Thank you Liv.
