Well, I have to say that I'm a bit taken aback by Daniel's review regarding feedback wherein he states he found issue with a number of things. Fortunately, I have dated messages with frequent communication that everything was going well at the condo and that they were more than satisfied, so I am able to express that I am disappointed that if Daniel and Sydney felt in anyway dissatisfied with their stay that they should have communicated that to me at the time, since I was always accessible and checked in often. It is only fair to the host that he/she be made aware of any issue, at the time of the stay, to bring about resolution in order to ensure a comfortable stay for the guest(s).
1) In response to the bathroom sink, the faucet had indeed been repaired once before, but for a different reason (the handle was not closing all the way-too much give) and when I was notified by Daniel that the the top of the faucet had actually come off, I was surprised, but of course understanding that things break and need to be fixed in homes, sometimes at the most inopportune times. Also, as I said in my review, Daniel communicated this issue which allowed me to find a solution, as quickly as possible. I ordered the sink immediately following our first discussion of the problem on Thursday, September 8th. It was delivered from Home Depot on Tuesday, September 13th, at which time I immediately contacted my handy-man. He was unable to get there as quickly as I preferred in wanting to fix this problem immediately for my guests, so I decided to take Daniel up on an earlier offer (when we first met) about use of his handy-man, as needed in the future. Daniel kindly contacted his handy-man and he came and installed the new faucet on September 16th, in half the time that Daniel indicates above in his review.
2) The study is not listed as a room for personal use, as it is currently used as storage to provide guests with greater space in all other areas of the home, completely void of my personal belongings to make the stay feel more "homey" and to provide a great deal of space. When I gave Daniel a tour ahead of time, I asked him if he wanted me to free the study of the set of boxes and he said it wasn't necessary. Otherwise, there was enough time between our first meeting and his arrival to do so and I would have gladly moved the set of boxes into the basement for him.
3) The home details on the Airbnb listing states that there is no cable, only internet, however, there are hook-ups for laptop and individual cable accounts through personal computers, which most people use today to stream their favorite programs. The antennae is available for basic TV channels (about five come in clearly, but as with any type of antennae connection, needs to be tweaked according to reception at the moment. Unfortunately, I did not know that the TV remote was broken until he arrived to collect the keys and I gave the tour. I had not been at the condo since preparing for the previous set of guests so this was a surprise to me. I took the remote with me to get repaired. Daniel said that it wasn't a big deal because the channels could be changed from the 42" flat screen itself, or from his computer. As a result, I did not put a rush on acquiring a new remote from the TV company. Had he made mention that it was an inconvenience during our many conversations throughout our regular check-ins, I would have ensured an expedited mailing of the new remote.
4) Perhaps most disappointing is Daniel's feedback regarding the sleeping arrangements. When I had learned early on that Daniel was from the area, but needed a bigger space than what he had to offer his mom when she came to visit, I was concerned as my listing states that there is only one bedroom and one double bed and because of this, I messaged Daniel immediately following his reservation request to ensure that he understood that there was one bedroom and one bed only. He responded that he was aware and that he had no problem with sleeping on the couch, which is not listed as a "sleep-sofa." Sleeping on the couch was not ideal in my opinion for the guest or for the host, as I do not like to have the sofa slept on since it is not a sleep sofa and it is an expensive furnishing that I prefer to keep in its best form. I offered Daniel a deluxe raised Aerobed, that offers adjustable settings for firmness at the switch of the attached remote for the user's comfort. When Daniel mentioned that he did not find air mattresses comfortable and preferred the couch, I acquiesced and allowed the couch to be used, particularly since he would be using the living room more as his bedroom space and using the couch would keep the area more spacious without the air mattress. I wanted to be as flexible as I could to meet his needs.
Overall, I found Daniel and his mom to be good and trustworthy people. I did not make mention in my review of finding the Keurig coffee maker broken upon my arrival to the condo or that I found the condo unclean. I feel strongly that these two areas of my dissatisfaction needed to be met with understanding. Things break and although it was apparent after investigation with the Keurig that the K-cup holder had been pushed very hard in order to have bent the piercing needle to a completely downward angle, rendering it unusable, that accidents do happen. I have contacted the company for a replacement part, but with a quick turnaround for new guest arrival, had to find another solution for the new guests.
In addition, I understand that everyone's definition of clean varies, so I chose not to take issue with this in Daniel's review. I also understand that this was Daniel's first Airbnb experience and he has nothing to use for comparison, except hotels, and hotels offer a very different type of accommodation. The costs associated with the rental of my Airbnb are market value and I am comfortable with that value and the value for guests in return. I have been hosting for more than one year and have received 5 Star ratings from all of my guests. The only advice that I can offer Daniel, moving forward, would be to choose a two bedroom setting to better accommodate his needs and to kindly communicate his needs to his host, as they arise, should he use Airbnb again in the future.
