This charming home was a clay artists's studio- converted into a living space full of hand-made character. Walkable neighborhood, 7 miles to Keeneland, Univ. of KY is walkable distance, 24 hour grocery within 1.5 blocks, nearby restaurants and bars. Perfect centralized hub for anything you want or need to do in Lexington KY. Quiet and secluded even though you are right on the edge of downtown- tucked behind the main house. Across the street from the nicest public park in town.
This space was originally my mother's ceramic studio- she was a functional potter for over 30 years. Renovated into a cute studio apartment, the indoor and outdoor space are filled with hand-made details and her wonderful art and ceramic collection. Hand-made dishes and glasses for your use, both ceramic and hand-blown glass. Bottom 2 shelves are for guest use- top shelves for display only.
The bed downstairs is a Queen sized Murphy Bed (it folds down into the room from a cabinet- please open the doors slowly as they jump the track sometimes), and a Queen sized platform bed upstairs with a Sealy memory foam type mattress. There are (2) two additional single beds upstairs. *Please note the single mattresses are in the nooks in the roof eaves- behind the cabinets. You can sleep in the nooks - which have reading lights- or pull the single beds out into the room. These are great for kids/young adults. Also note the ceiling in the upstairs is relatively low. The 1/2 bath upstairs is not enclosed. The full bath is downstairs. Washer and Dryer. And clothesline! The house is a blend of handmade, funky, cozy and charming. We have left a lot of our mother's art collection in the space for your enjoyment. (we ask you to treat these objects with respect- they are there for your visual enjoyment.) It's a cool, hand-made artist's get-away with handmade tiles floors in the bathroom, and art everywhere.
Whole house access- and backyard area, there are two porches, the downstairs one is screened and has a dining table, ceiling fans, a sink and seating area. The upstairs deck is open and gives you a birds-eye view. I checked the box for swimming pool- as there is a very nice outdoor pool in Woodland Park directly across the street- (seasonal). $5.00 per adult for admission. Woodland park has wonderful old trees, a flower garden, skateboard park, tennis courts, and a nice playground.
I just beefed up the WiFi signal- so all should be good to go on internet! I'll send you the login info once you have booked- it is also posted on the info sheets on the fridge. Stove instructions in the drawer to the left of the stove- its an IKEA stove so a little different than usual.
I live about 3 blocks away, across the park so I am available as needed. Happy to provide recommendations. Info on some of the amazing local culture will be left on the table for you to peruse, happy to make recommendations. My sister or myself are available to assist whenever needed, but are not onsite, but are easily reached.
Off-street parking. If you are facing the house, the driveway is on the left- there is room for 2+ cars. Please keep your cars towards the right in the drive. Trash/Recycling on the right hand side of the kitchen sink. Kroger is a 24 hour very nice grocery store 1.5 blocks away. Go out the door and turn left- walk 1.5 blocks and you are there. Please NOTE: there is now a 6% KY sales tax due and a 1% useage tax payable to the State of Kentucky. We will collect that directly from you -durring your stay. Instructions on this will be included in your check-in information. Thanks!
I love furry critters, unfortunately I am very allergic- so I cannot accommodate any unless you want to keep them outside in the fenced backyard, and then crated on the screened in porch. NO pets on the porch furniture. Absolutely NO pets inside the house. NO smoking in the house or on the screened in porch. All smoking must happen outside in the yard.
Please do not touch the pots or artwork higher than the first 2 shelves in the kitchen which are there for your use. The rest is precious to us- and our private collection- it is there for your enjoyment, please be respectful. Look but don't touch. We have left it in the space for your enjoyment. Please close the windows and latch the screened door when you are out. Please lock the gate when you leave as well.
Thank you for observing our rules!
My sister Zoe' and I are hosts of this charming artists cottage. It was formerly our mother's working ceramic studio. My sister and I are both are working artists- and this home is full of interesting art, tidbits from our lives, and our own travel. This spot highlights our shared passion of art and nature.
I am a metal sculptor, and my sister a ceramics professor and writer. We both have large gardens and we both love to explore other places
