This suite captures the spirit of Zane Grey's writings. Located on the north side of the building it is cooler, indirect sunlight making it the perfect suite for a good nights sleep. A very soft comfortable bed, a half bath with a shower room available in (#107) day and night. The bathroom & kitchen retain the 1940's features, ask for pots & pans for cooking. Located in downtown Dunsmuir, within walking distance are the train station, shops, eateries, great hikes, Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens.

Stay in a quirky historic hotel in beautiful, Dunsmuir! Find out why: It's the famous "Ripley's Believe It or Not" Upside Down Hotel - you enter the lobby and ...
A 2 minute walking distance from the Amtrak, downtown shops and restaurants, and the Sacramento River.
This old hotel offers a stay like no other! Built in the early 1920’s by Abner Weed, and originally called “The Weed Hotel,” Hotel Dunsmuir burned to the ground and was rebuilt in the 1940’s in traditional 40’s Art Deco Style. The post fire renovations were built around the building’s original brick skeleton. With the re-opening of the hotel in 1947 it again became known as “Dunsmuir’s finest”.
Once the largest city north of Sacramento, travelers visited Dunsmuir for its lively culture, pure healing water, and incredible natural beauty. Hotel Dunsmuir offered the most extravagant accommodations available in town and was once frequented by wealthy travelers and movie stars.
After almost 100 years, the building is in the process of being revived yet again. The rooms available are uniquely themed and feature a full kitchen, sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. Relax, explore the town’s rich history, soak up the incredible natural beauty and pure glacial drinking water, and support our efforts to restore The Hotel Dunsmuir.

You will have access to your room, the roof and the hotel lobby.

I work full time and am more than happy to interact with guests when available.

Mark and Soti were great in communication and responding to my requests. They did their best to accommodate my last-minute date change and agreed to extend my stay on short notice. The train station is close and the train can definitely be heard! Nothing that earplugs didn't take care of though... Dunsmuir is a super quaint little town - note that the whole town shuts down on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I would happily return again - the rooms are very well priced for their proximity to Mount Shasta as well as several areas to explore in Dunsmuir.

Hi Nuha, Thank you for staying with us, I was delighted to be able to accommodate the date change and extend your stay. If I had known that the pots were not in the suite I would have rectified that during your stay. I will look into 107 immediately. Thanks, Soti

Our host Soti was wonderful! We had arranged to come in late for check-in and she was more than accommodating. She stayed until we arrived for check-in, and was even able to recommend many places to eat and things to do late at night. Very informative on the history of the town and our airbnb stay. Easily would come back to Dunsmuir, and most definitely recommend!

This is such a fun place to stay because it has so much history and the the antique furnishings are very interesting. Love to wander up the block to Dunsmuir Brewery Works for their fabulous food and brews.

Hi Mary As a historical building we haven't yet figured out how to get air conditioning while still meeting the requirements as set out by the state historical association. The description of the room states that there is nohot water in that suite, it is priced accordingly, there is a bathroom available on the 1st floor to meet the shower needs of our guests. We have made great strides in a short time, and thank you for your commiserations about the fire, it was a major blow to our plans, however, everything happens for a reason. Hope to see you again Mary, Soti.

I requested the room within 2 hours of my need. I received an immediate reply - whic was great. I was trying to avoid having to stay at something like Motel 6! I didn't take a lot of time reading about amenities and such, so may have missed any mention of things like coffee or shampoo or train station. I loved the place! It is a historic hotel that has been kept with original charm. I was just traveling through but Dunsmuir looks like a cute town that I would not have minded having a few days to explore. The "room" is actually a little one bedroom apartment with living room, bedroom, bath and kitchen area- though not supplied with dish or cookware. Zane Gray room had full sized refrig/top freezer and a microwave. 2nd room (202) had a stove - though again, not supplied for cooking, etc.. If you are looking for fancy elegance, this is not for you! If you like quaint and fun, this is delightful - especially 202 over Zane Gray. But Zane Gray absolutely would have served my needs. I felt safe in the town and area and would have felt fine going out at night, had I not been so tired. Soti, who was there to greet me was very helpful and friendly. I would absolutely go back again!

Good stay at this quickly little historical place. The room was as shown. Comfy bed and great proximity to the downtown shops and restaurants. Only downside was no AC and a slight walk to the shower (our room had no hot water, but we knew that in advance). The woman who is managing the place met us at the door upon arrival and showed us around. Easy check out. thanks!

We are doing our best to maintain the authenticity of the building, hence no AC. Will leave a card in the room with wifi password, thanks for the suggestion. Soti

Mark was an excellent host. He was very accommodating when I extended my stay and always communicated promptly. He was very knowledgeable about historic Dunsmuir, and things to do in the area. The place is really unusual and funky - it's also known as the upside down hotel. The rooms are eclectically furnished suites in a historic property in the center of town. It's near the train station, so you hear the trains, which I actually really enjoyed, and are part of the allure of the town itself. Everything is in walking distance, I enjoyed the galleries, the brewery and a few cafes and bars. Across the street is the historic California Theater, owned and operated by Mark. If you stay in the Hotel you can check out a movie as well. Staying there you definitely feel like you go back in time, but with all necessary conveniences. I recommend Mark's Dunsmuir Hotel rooms for people seeking an unusual, immersive experience in a historic location.

Mark Juarez is many things: entrepreneur, world traveler, CEO, inventor, designer, published writer, teacher, certified masseuse and motivational speaker. He is well known for his ability to successfully innovate products with ‘character.’ Juarez is also living proof of two concepts: that it is possible to achieve the ultimate balance between profitable business management and social responsibility. The second, that there is no such thing as an impossible dream.

In 1992 Mark Juarez established The Happy Company. He started the company with his personal savings of $22,000 and within three years the company was earning $20 million and garnering the number five slot on the "Top Ten Companies" list for Northern California, as well as number two position on the "Top Ten Fastest Growing Companies" list in the Bay Area in 1996. Happy Massager, his flagship product, was the world's best-selling massage tool – transforming the massage tool industry.

Through The Happy Company, Juarez has invented and managed the development cycle of more hundreds of products, as well as being awarded over a hundred national & international patents, trademarks, and copyrights. His initial inspiration in creating products was to introduce what he calls "the caring touch" to the world and that touch extended him into the non-profit sector.

On top of that busy schedule, Juarez is a regular guest teacher at prestigious universities such as Stanford, USC, Loyola Marymount and San Francisco State University. He is also an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker to businesses and non-profit associations worldwide. Juarez and his products have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, TIME Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Small Business Magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle, The Atlanta Journal, and up to two hundred other print, TV, and radio outlets to count.

Juarez has published “Charlie’s THINKING CHEESE” to inspire community projects, healthier living styles, and cross-generational dialogues. Concurrent with his faith in humanity and the belief that EVERYTHING in life is an opportunity, Juarez is creating a health retreat and community focused on personal growth and achieving extraordinary health in the Mt Shasta area in Northern California.

Additionally, over the last 5 years, Juarez has been designing an innovative environmentally conscious way to build houses that is cheaper, faster and is more attractive. His method is safer than conventional houses in fire & earthquakes and will last longer, requiring less maintenance.

Juarez overcame dyslexia and a disadvantaged upbringing with a strong belief that work is LOVE made visible and INTEGRITY before profits, ethics which he incorporates in his company and everyday living. Through his travels, he experienced firsthand the power of the pursuit of a dream that benefits others and the value of sincere gratitude. This became his greatest motivation to continually create and sustain a healthy and happy work environment in which all can work collaboratively together to succeed and thrive.
