The bright, sunny apartment is in an excellent location (close walking/biking distance to the museums, Anne Frank House, restaurants, shopping, etc.) with a charming view of the Leidsegracht (the canal) and has really good potential. The apartment has been recently updated. The steep stairs add to the charm (it is a canal home). The building and entrance are really nice as is the street and canal. It is quiet at night. Pieter responds quickly and Fritz was welcoming. We stayed for five nights and had a great time in Amsterdam.
However, we did have some concerns about the apartment and we would not rate it as "luxury", "high end" or "complete", at least during our stay. The floor was dirty upon our arrival. The couch in the living area was lacking a slip cover so it was somewhat "bare" (not what we expected in a high end unit). While the apartment had dishes, pots and pans, when we arrived there were absolutely no cooking utensils - only 2 dinner knives, 3 dinner spoons, 2 forks and 4 teaspoons and nothing else (luckily the local Albert Heijn has lots of prepared foods). The cutting board was tiny and cracked. There was no coffee maker, tea pot, corkscrew, cutting knives or toaster. There is a microwave/oven, but it is a little complicated to use though we figured it out. There was no dish rack to put some wet dishes as we needed to frequently wash the few cutlery items provided. There was no hair dryer. To his credit and after a few requests, on our third day Fritz did bring by some utensils and a coffee machine.
The apartment appeared not quite complete. The lighting in the kitchen is sparse - there were electrical wires hanging from the ceiling, but no ceiling light fixture. There was only a night light and table on one side of the bed. There were electrical wires protruding above the w/c sink. There are no hooks, towels racks or counter space in the washroom. The shower splashes water all over the washroom floor, including around the sink and toilet (and no bathmat provided) leaving a wet floor for the next person. The front windows, in our opinion, lacked adequate blinds/curtains. While not important to us, the TV in the bedroom was inoperable. At least one of the windows should have a screen as there were a number of mosquitoes. When coming in from the rain, there was nowhere to hang our wet coats.
When advertised as a luxury, high-end, complete house, we would rate it a 3/5.
