La Casita is the original house on the 2,550 sq. m (2/3 acre) property, acquired on a whim in 1998 by present owner Annabella Proudlock. She was charmed by the setting, and is still enchanted by its beauty and atmosphere.

Security Deposit Terms & Conditions
During your stay:
You will be provided with one set of keys upon check-in. Keys must be returned to the property manager or Habitat office upon check-out, (mailbox of Habitat, located in Playa Chiquita from the supermarket “El Duende Gourmet” 50 m south, in front of Hotel NAMUWOKI) If the keys are lost, a charge of $100 will be deducted from the security deposit. Please inform your check out time one day before departure.
Do not rearrange the bedding or furniture. Do not sit on furniture with wet clothing or bathing suits
Do not smoke inside the house
Hang wet towels and clothing outside to dry
Do not leave food and beverages exposed to attract insects inside the house
Lock up valuables in safes provided when leaving the house during day or evenings.
Lock doors and windows every time you leave the house unoccupied.
Keep noise and music to a reasonable level
No illicit drug use on property
No pets allowed
Upon your departure:
Wash and put away all dishes
Leave dirty linens and towels on the bathroom or bedroom floor
Turn off all lights and A/C units & Lock all doors and windows
***Failure of tenants to comply with this responsibilities will result in being charged for additional cleaning services and/or damages.
We greatly appreciate if you would treat the rental property as if it would be your own.

We enjoyed our stay here but there were a few things to be aware of - make sure you don't leave any food or residue out - little ants get to it right away and we had some unidentified animals visiting the kitchen at night and leaving their droppings on the counters. The immediate neighbours were quiet and friendly but off property neighbours played music late at night...earplugs would be a bonus. We did love the proximity to the beach and there was a great French Bakery if you turn left from the exit. The tailer there also rents bikes which were a highlight of our trip. If you can go to the farmers market on Saturday in Puerto Viejo it is a wonderful experience and there is great food there!

My fiancé and I stayed here for just over a month from mid-May to mid-June and loved it. We loved riding our bikes to dinner and the relaxed environment of the area.

Stay here and enjoy the beauty and authenticity of Puerto Viejo. This place is the perfect combination of convenience, amenities, seclusion, and beauty. The house is tucked away on a private lot (shared with two other permanent houses) just off the main road, but far enough away from town (technically in Cocles) that you get little noise, traffic, etc. The house and the lot are beautiful and you will be close to a few essential locations: - the beach (a 5 min walk will take you to one of the best and least used beaches) - the grocery store (Super Cocles has everything you'll need. We loved cooking and eating at the house or making food for the road). - bicycle rentals (we rented bikes for $7/day from a little sewing shop south of the house and used them every day to get around) Tips: - Hot water for the shower only seemed to work during the day. - The Dollar is accepted pretty much everywhere, but getting your change at the correct exchange rate is another story. Best to have small bills on hand. - find a cab driver you like and get his number for texting a pick-up. We did this for evening/night trips into town. We found a young, kind guy that never tried to rip us off (beware that others will claim to have no change, overcharge, or change the price from one trip to another without telling you) - Saturday is the farmer's market, which takes place across the street from Mopri (a place that sells fresh fish every day!) - Last but not least, the initial trek to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca (there's two Puerto Viejos) can be a challenge. To be prepared, expect flight delay, long customs line (1 hour long when we arrived), and very bad traffic. Puerto Viejo is about 5.5 hours away from the airport. However, the airport is about 30 min from San Jose, where the bus terminals are located. We took a $30 cab and then got on the bus (Terminal MEPE is what you need) for $10 each. You will not stop until Limon, and we got stuck in 3 hours of stand still traffic for a total of 8.5 hours in the road. Other pricier options include: a taxi ($250 divided by your crew) which can leave at non-traffic hours or a second flight from San Jose to Limon though Sansa Air (about $75 each, one way) and then an hour taxi ($?) from Limon to the BnB. Anyway, once you're there you'll love it. Caribbean influence, Latin culture, great people, great food (easily found on yelp), amazing beaches, yoga, hiking, less touristy. Go.

La maison est tout ce qu'on attend d'un endroit tranquille proche de la plage et d'un petit supermarché. Il y a un vendeur de fruits juste à côté et Puerto Viejo n'est vraiment pas loin.

My friends and I absolutely LOVED our stay at La Casita. It was the perfect mix between a jungle escape and a beach getaway since it really offers the best of both worlds. The place is very clean, cozy and charming with all the amenities we could want. Not to mention it's gorgeous! I can't wait to return :)

The place was awesome, even better than the pictures. We shared the house with 4 people and it was perfect. Great little community inside the garden gates and close to the beach and town! Loved it!

Very nice caribbean house among jungle trees, near the Rio Negro river and 5' from the beach. Easy access from the road, close to the supermarket and a 5-10' bike ride away from Puerto Viejo. The accommodation is comfortable and picturesque, with all the facilities needed, great security and support from the owners.
