Lovely room for one/small double. Single travellers often get a tiny room, so we wanted to offer more space! A charming and well-sized bedroom, with en suite bathroom, a deeply comfortable queen-sized bed, and an armchair, in a spacious and very peaceful house, 10 minutes walk from Rosmoney Pier. €40 single occupancy; €60 for two. We are 7km outside Westport, so you do need a car. Well behaved dogs are welcome!
Spacious, warm, and very peaceful house in its own grounds, 10 minutes walk from Rosmoney Pier, and 10 minutes drive from Westport town. Minimum stay is two nights (not hard to do in this part of the world)! Well behaved dogs are welcome! Characterful room. It is comfortably furnished with a really good queen-sized (4' 6") bed, a squashy armchair, and has an en suite bathroom with a power shower. Lots of books and pictures everywhere in the house. There is a big country kitchen with a scrubbed pine table, where we eat breakfast. Fantastic view of Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick from the top of the garden! Westport is a vibrant and exceptionally pretty town, with lots to see and do, a lively arts and crafts scene, good traditional music, good food, and stunning coastal scenery all around. Achill, Connemara, Killary Harbour, Aasleagh Falls and Kylemore Abbey are all within an hour's drive. There are many lovely walks on the doorstep, and the Greenway cycle route, as well as the Westport Cycle Hub on small, quiet by-roads, pass close by to the house. A friendly Red Setter lives here, but has no access to the guest room! For a large double room (also en-suite), see my other listing.
Guests are welcome to relax in the comfy sitting room, with a squashy sofa and armchairs, a resident cat on the rug, and a wonderful Stovax fireplace for any damp evenings.
We are keen explorers of the local landscape and of all those small roads and tracks that beg to be investigated, and happy to advise on endless lovely places to visit, whether coast, beach, mountains, or the Mayo lakes. Your hostess a very keen landscape photographer, and happy to share information on the many great locations roundabouts, whether to photograph, to paint and sketch, or just for gazing at!
Minimum stay is 2 nights. The house is non-smoking. Breakfast is set out for you so you can feel free to help yourself when you appear in the morning. Selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, eggs and cheese, and home-made goodies like blackberry jam or lemon curd. As well as tea, coffee and fruit juice. And porridge is always possible!
There is a lockable shed, if you need to store bikes out of the weather.
I hope that you really enjoy staying in my peaceful house, and treat it with the same care as you would your own. No smoking indoors! If you are a late-night party animal, then the location and the distance from town is not likely to suit you - but if you are into the great outdoors, walks and Nature, then it is a really lovely place to come home to!

I'm a retired college lecturer - I moved to Westport a couple of years ago, to live in the stunning scenery and landscapes of the western seaboard. I love the great outdoors - walking, exploring small corners, looking at plants and rocks and that kind of thing!I used to be a very keen hill-walker, active every weekend with my local club.
In more recent years, I've been developing a passion for landscape photography (hence the urge to move to the west of Ireland). I have hosted visiting photographers, and guided them to some of the wonderful locations I know. I've also hosted a few folk who've been working on book projects, and needed a quiet bolthole, and the big desk in my guest room. My house is definitely a quiet bolthole! The experience has helped me to identify what makes a good guest - simple stuff like: take things as you find them, and do not innovate in the household without consulting your host!!!!
I'm also very interested in literature, classical music, movies, baking and cooking. I love dogs and cats, and have a young re-homed Red Setter, and a venerable tabby cat. I think I am fairly good at following the order of other people's houses, and taking things as I find them. There are some really interesting houses and lifestyles listed on airbnb, and I hope to get to visit a number of them on my travels....
