La Groumelle is a very special 17th Century house and former silk worm farm. Beautifully and sympathetically restored to retain its unique Provencal charm, it sits amongst its own vines with beautiful views up to Menerbes to one side and up the valley towards Bonnieux and Lacoste on the other. One of very few properties in the Luberon to have its own hard tennis court and a heated swimming pool it is ideal for holidays both in and out of season. Discounts considered for smaller groups.
La Groumelle's location is exceptional. The property faces up the valley beneath Menerbes with an uninterrupted view over its own vines towards Bonnieux and Lacoste and the Petit Luberon, over which the sun (and moon) rises. As you look towards the house in the other direction, the beautiful village of Menerbes with its bell tower (whose bell can be heard tolling every hour) frames the property and the beautiful sunsets that bathe the garden in a golden glow at dusk.
A recently renovated, heated, saline 13 m pool with beautiful cool stone surround and its own Wifi is at the heart of the grounds besides a large, irrigated mown lawn for ball games etc. on one side and a shaded boules area on the other. La Groumelle is unique in having a hard tennis court, which also doubles as a large play pen for smaller children! A large trampoline completes the amenities for the energetic. Situated in a valley, the approximately two acres of ground are flat and making it ideal for guests of all ages.
There are multiple options for shaded al fresco dining. There is large stone table with views exceptional views besides a small ancient cover well, with a smaller stone table in an enclosed courtyard surrounded by stone walls - ideal if the Mistral is blowing. There is also a table for dining beside the pool on our covered stone pool deck.
The house itself oozes character whilst benefiting from modern comforts and amenities. The layout of the house is hard to describe but can be thought of as being configured in two "wings", with two bedrooms at one end (an ensuite double and twin bedroom) and three at the other (two ensuite double rooms and a twin bedroom) where the large farmhouse kitchen, dining cave, and large salon are located. This makes it ideal for larger groups who can use the whole house but not feel as thought they are sleeping on top of each other, or a couple or a single family that can mainly use one side of the house. There is a large eat-in farmhouse kitchen as well as our signature "cave" for special feasts. The house has two sitting rooms (salons), one with a working fireplace for which wood is provided as part of the rental.
Our house manager will be there to greet you and to explain how the house works. There is a house book full of information on local markets, sight seeing, restaurants and activities. We have also included useful numbers and our top tips for things that we love to do in the area, great vineyards to visit and places that we love to eat at.
We hope that our guests enjoy our house, grounds and surrounding area as much as we do!
