Private room, organic cotton queen bed, shared bath and full access to kitchen, dining room, deck, and jacuzzi. This historic Southpark neighborhood is very close to downtown, convention center, Balboa Park, the zoo and the airport.
8 blocks to the bus and 12 blocks to the trolly.
Our house is kind of a bohemian paradise. Eclectic, down to earth, unpretentious, a place where the creative arts are admired, respected, encouraged and practiced. All are welcome here. We celebrate diversity!
We have another room with a private bathroom that we also rent through airbnb (Southpark Cozy Loft) We will use that bathroom if it's not rented so you may have the bathroom to yourself. Obviously, there may be other guests in the house during your stay.
The house was built in 1939 by Japanese craftsman as were many of the homes in this neighborhood. There were many Japanese people living in the neighborhood up until WWII. The story does have a happy ending though...the owners returned after encampment and lived here well into the 60's.
I was a remodeling contractor for many years and have made improvements on the house but have chosen to keep much of the original cabinetry and millwork. It's beginning to be old enough to have a bit of that old house charm...
Please feel free to use the kitchen and dining room up to 10pm. The deck, patio, BBQ and jacuzzi are also available any time and laundry facilities are available if you need them.
I work at home so I'm almost always available. I love sharing travel stories and adventures, a glass of wine or a meal. We've been known to take our guests hiking, to the beach, wine tasting or out for some live music.
Our sweet dog, Luna (see photos) will most likely bark at you at first and when you come to the door. If you're deeply afraid of dogs please consider an alternative place to stay. Also, we are in the incoming flight path so it can be noisy at times although air traffic usually stops about 11pm till 6am
Smoking is allowed outside only and if you use the kitchen please finish by 10pm.

I've lived in San Diego for 32 years, raised 2 kids mostly on my own and have been a professional craftsman and home builder for most of my adult life.
I'm also a semi-professional musician, recording artist and full time instrument maker. I build a very unique and beautiful musical instrument called the Array Mbira which is used by professional musicians and film makers all over the world. I usually travel with one of my instruments and am always happy to play.
I'm also a potter and dabble in painting and stained glass... creativity is a way of life for me.
I love to travel and have spent quite a bit of time in Japan and Indonesia as well as extensive travel in the western US. I enjoy many outdoor activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, snow boarding etc. as well as good food and especially good wine. I love exploring the many wine regions up and down the west coast.
I've been involved with airbnb since January of 2012.
